I read a Facebook post recently titled “Four Things I Always Tell My Kids When I Say Goodbye to Them.” The author, Craig Froehle, reminds his kids to do four things: Be good. Learn lots. Have fun. Do your best. He goes on to explain what he means by each of those little phrases: Be good-Not just follow the rules and guidelines, but be a force for good. Learn lots-Be a lifelong learner in all situations, not just school. Have fun-You’re a kid. Life is short. Some activities can’t, by nature, be all fun and games, but make sure fun is built into your day. Do your best-Trying hard and potentially failing is better than coasting along. It occurs to me that this is great advice for adults, too. What would you add to this list? What do you want your kids to remember all day long? Maybe you’d add, “No matter what, I’ll always love you” or “Don’t forget WHOSE you are….a child of the King redeemed by Christ?” Blessings on your day! RAISE A GLASS FOR STUDENT SUCCESS! Our annual RAISE A GLASS event is planned for Saturday, October 21, 2017! RAG is the annual fund raising event for Bethany Student Success Program! Please add this date to your calendar and plan to also extend this invitation to other friends & family to celebrate and support Student Success. We have a great new venue at the Gaslamp in Long Beach, an amazing assortment of unique auction items, and a delightful afternoon to “raise your glass.” Do you have items you can donate for our event? At RAG we have live auctions, as well as “opportunity” drawings for variety of items. We welcome your special donations and appreciate any direct financial contributions, as well! Smencils are coming! Smencils are coming! What is a smencil, you ask? It’s a scented pencil! We have bubble gum, strawberry, blueberry, root beer and so many more (and a limited number of Halloween Smencils!) Our 8th graders will be selling them on Wednesdays and Fridays to benefit their DC trip.

Every Wednesday we have a Chapel (church) service for the entire school. Sometimes the students lead these, and sometimes members of the staff lead them. At each of these services we collect an offering for a worthy charity. These offerings teach our students the importance of using our financial blessings to make a difference in the lives of others. You are always welcome to attend our chapel services and your support is always appreciated. For September, we will be donating our offerings to an organization called Fikisha, who serves street youth in Africa. Learn more here: fikisha.org

This year our teachers are choosing students to receive monthly awards for varying reasons.
