September 26, 2018 Dear SJA Families, We finally had a day of sunshine! What a blessing to have all the children play outside. I am attaching information about the Maryland 529 Investment Plan to pay for education costs. Did you know that you could use this to pay for K-12 education expenses? Friday, we will have a Dress Down Day. All may dress down for $1 or more donation to Conquer Chiara. The Conquer Chiara walk was held at Lake Montebello on September 22nd. There was a team walking to support our beloved Heidi Pesa who was afflicted with this illness and to whom we dedicated the SJA Monarch Butterfly Garden. Heidi’s husband, Mike, led a team and we would like to support Chiara research. Extra-Curricular activities have begun! Would your student like to participate? Street Hockey, which runs for 5 consecutive Wednesdays begins today (Grades Flag Football begins on October 1st (through November; Grades 3-5, Jr. division; Grades 6-8, Sr. division) High School Placement Test Prep begins Monday, October 1st (Mondays for 5 weeks; Grade 8) Bowling Club begins October 16th (through November; Grades K and up) Creative Writing began on Monday and still has openings! If we do not hire someone soon, we will need to limit the attendance at Extended Care. This is a great position for someone looking for part time work in the afternoon. Please contact me if you know of anyone who may be interested. Please be aware that the Technology fee of $150 per student has been billed on FACTS incidentals. This charge is not attached to your tuition payment. The St. Joan of Arc Home School Association is the formal association binding the parents, students and teachers more closely. ST. JOAN OF ARC VOICES The St. Joan of Arc Voices is a chorus of students (grades 3-8) who sing for the school liturgies, school concerts and other special events. Rehearsal takes place in the Art/Music Room in the Church Hall on Tuesdays at 3:30 to 4:15, beginning September 18, 2018. We will be learning songs for the Mass as well as secular songs of all genres. All students are expected to observe the St. Joan of Arc Student Behavior Code during all rehearsals. A chorus is a “team sport” in that everyone works together for the same goal. Students should be picked up at 4:15 at the church door facing Plater Street. Any students attending Extended Care will remain in the Church Hall after rehearsal ends at 4:15. If you would like your child to be part of the St. Joan of Arc Voices, please sign the permission slip below and have your child turn it in to their homeroom teacher by Tuesday, September 18. We’ll make a JOYFUL NOISE!! Mrs. Donna Dandino

St. Joan of Arc Flag Football St. Joan of Arc School will offer a Flag Football club to our students this fall. There will be two divisions for students to participate in. The Senior Division is for middle school students. We will offer a junior division where students in 3rd through 5th grade are eligible to join. We will run the program from October 1st through November. We will hold the club on Monday afternoons to begin. We will conduct the club at the park in Aberdeen. Students will walk to the park with the coaches after school. Parents will pick their students up at the park. Because we have 2 divisions there will be two time periods for the club. Period 1 will begin right after school and last until 4:45. Period 2 will begin at 5:00 and go to 6:00 P.M. We will alternate the schedules between the two divisions. Students scheduled in Period 1 will be picked up at the park. Participants scheduled for Period 2 will need to be dropped off at the park and picked up at the park on time. The sessions are limited contact sessions. This means that there are rules in place to limit the amount rough physical contact between the participants. Those rules include no tackling, no blocking, no hurdling and no spin rules. While these rules will help to limit the chance for injury we cannot guarantee no injuries will occur. St. Joan of Arc is not responsible for any injuries that occur among any of the student participants. The sessions will begin with a clinic atmosphere and evolve into scrimmages between the participants. Students may wear their gym uniforms at the sessions or they may purchase a set of St. Joan of Arc Flag Football t-shirt and sweats if you wish. Cost of the t-shirts and sweats will be available prior to orders taken. We may offer a couple of opposing school scrimmages at the end of the program if possible. We may also have a parent student game to conclude the program.
