REASONS TO FORGIVE 1. __________________________ tells us to forgive. 2. Forgiveness ________________________________________________ the other person and us. 3. Failure to forgive interferes with our relationship with ______________________ and with _________.

ENRIGHT’S FOUR PHASES OF FORGIVENESS 1. _________________________________________________________: Exploring the pain.

2. _______________________________________________: Committing to trying to forgive.

3. ___________________________________________: Focusing on the transgressor, trying to gain insight and understanding.

4. ______________________________________________________: Realizing that we too are recipients of other’s forgiveness.

LIFE GROUP QUESTIONS (Audio, video, & sermon notes are online at HBChurch.net) The Spring Session lasts until the week of June 16. To have the best discussions, please fill out these questions before arriving at your Life Group. Remember: one of the best ways to grow spiritually is in relationship with other growing Christians.

1. SHARE YOUR PRAYER REQUESTS AND ANSWERED PRAYERS:

2. REVIEWING SUNDAY: What blessed you the most from Sunday’s worship service and sermon?

4. DISCUSSING THE BIBLE: a) When I forgive, am I condoning sin? No. Jesus forgives but does not condone sin. Read John 8:11. Why is forgiveness not the same as condoning?

b) For-giveness is before-giveness: to give pardon to someone before they asked forgiveness or even if they never asked forgiveness. That might be the hardest thing to do. How hard do you find it to forgive people, even before they ask for it? c) If you are in an abusive situation, should you forgive? Yes. But you must also free yourself to obey God and remove yourself from the abusive situation until it is changed. Forgiveness requires us to recognize sin for what it is, to not condone it, but also to not let it enslave us. If you do not forgive and get free, you will often enable others' irresponsible behavior by becoming co-dependent. Discuss this point. d) We will never exhibit a more godlike character than when we obey God’s commands to forgive the offenses of other believers. True or false? Why?

e) What blessings do we forfeit when we fail to forgive? Consider how our worship may be impacted (Matthew 5:23-24). Consider how we might cut ourselves off from receiving forgiveness (Matthew 6:12, 15). Consider the opportunity of the Devil to work in your life (Ephesians 4:27). Consider the torturers of loneliness, depression, anxiety, and self-hatred (Matthew 18:34).

5. MISSIONS SUPPORT: Minji Kim, one of our worship leaders, is going on a mission trip this summer to Osaka, Japan from June 14 to July 1. She needs $3200 to pay for the trip. Please consider giving an offering to help pay for this trip: • Checks (tax-deductible) can be made to Huntington Beach Church. Write on the memo line “Missions.” • Or go online right now and give through HBChurch.net. Click “Give” and choose the “Missions” account. 6. GRADUATION SUNDAY: Don’t forget that this Sunday our church family is celebrating those who are graduating this year. Make plans to stay for the potluck. If you are bringing a dish, remember that there will be about 125 people –– so bring plenty!
