SERMON PREP GUIDE FEBRUARY 4, 2018 READING GOD’S WORD Ephesians 4:26–27

DISCUSSING GOD’S WORD 1. Paul continues in his instruction of what it looks like to put on the new self. What is the first thing that he mentions in our passage? [Hint: first two words] 2. What does he command directly after this? [Hint: after “and”] 3. Paul adds another directive to the same thought process. What is it? 4. When we wrongly handle our anger what do we give?

APPLYING GOD’S WORD 1. Why does Paul tell those who have put on the new self to “be angry?” 2. How can we “be angry” and not sin? What are some real-life examples of this? 3. Why would Paul say not to let the sun go down on our anger? What could be the repercussions of this if we do not heed his counsel? 4. How can anger be an opportunity for the devil?

PRAYING GOD’S WORD » Ask the Lord to help you refrain from sinning when you are angry. » Pray that God would give you a heart of flesh rather than a heart of stone – that you would have compassion and not let the sun go down before you seek reconciliation with one another. » Father, as we are of one Spirit and members one of another, empower us to be united and not divisive. May we be Your witnesses to the world that You, the Son, and the Spirit are one. » Earnestly beseech God to give you eyes to see when you may fall into temptation so that you may not give an opportunity to the devil.
