CALL TO CONFESSION

COMMUNITY PRAYER OF CONFESSION Merciful God, in Your gracious presence we confess our sin and the sin of this world. Although Christ is among us as our peace, we are a people divided against ourselves as we cling to the values of a broken world. The profit and pleasures we pursue quickly become idols. We abuse Your good gifts of imagination and freedom, of intellect and reason, and have turned them into bonds of oppression. Lord, have mercy upon us; heal and forgive us. PRAYER OF PERSONAL CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF GOD’S FORGIVENESS * RESPONSE “Laud and Honor to the Father”. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . DeJarnette * AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles’ Creed Greg Hartnett I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. “Our Sacred Goal and Highest Call” Our sacred goal and highest call     Defines the faithful life: Through height and depth, through great and small,     To honor Jesus Christ! Each passing day brings trial and test,     Yet Christ is in control. We serve the God of righteousness,     Who searches heart and soul. Stand firm for Christ, the Lord of lords;     From idols, be set free! The highest life His love affords,     Defines who we must be! Words: James DeJarnette; tune: St. Anne
