Follow all manufacturers’ instructions and labels. • Use proper and safe equipment and precautions if servicing the exterior side of windows above ground level. • Insect screens are not security devices and will not prevent children, other people, or pets from falling through. • Ensure glass is fully seated in sash or panel. NEEDED TOOLS AND MATERIALS • Safety glasses

• Sanding materials

• Tape measure

• Business card

• Laminate roller

• Zip ties or coffee stir sticks

• 70% Isopropyl alcohol

• Utility knife

• Pencil

• Lint free rags or towels

• Ensure the bars are clean. • Verify tape alignment on bars is even. • Ensure the bars are the correct grid pattern. Internal and external bars should adhere to glass along complete lineal run. • Verify there are no debris at grid intersections. • Verify there are no scratches on painted surfaces. Touch-up any defects or reorder if damage is severe. • Verify all intersections are secured. • Remove silicone squeeze out thicker than 1/16". PREPARE TO INSTALL SDL BARS 1. Only apply SDL bars to surfaces that are 60 degrees or warmer. If this service is performed at lower temperatures it may affect the adhesive bond between the tape and the glass. 2. Prior to removing tape backing, dry fit SDL to ensure proper length of the bar and also that the end work of the SDL bars matches the sticking on the sash or panel. Check this on the interior and the exterior of the unit. 3. Spray or wipe all SDL bar tape contact areas on the glass with 70% isopropyl alcohol or use pre-packaged wipes on these contact areas. Do not just use common glass cleaner to clean glass prior to applying the SDL bar. Glass cleaner may leave a residue and reduce bond strength. With a clean rag wipe the glass vigorously until it is completely dry and no film residue is visible. Under normal conditions wait 1 to 3 minutes before applying the tape so that any residual moisture can evaporate.

SERVICE SUPPLEMENT Simulated Divided Lite Bar Installation for Window and Patio Door Glass (SVC003)

SDL PREPARATION FOR INTERLOCKING BAR PATTERNS 1. Starting on exterior side of window, take a horizontal Notches to mark frame SDL bar and place at top of opening. Center the bar in the opening and use the notch(es) to mark on the SDL bar window the top position of the vertical SDL bar. Repeat at the bottom of the opening. 2. Take a vertical SDL bar and center between the marks made on the window. Mark amount of bar to trim, if necessary. There should be 0.015" to 0.020" clearance on each side to allow for expansion and contraction. A business card can be used as the shim. 3. Ends of SDL bars are cut to match to profile of window. Trim bars at appropriate angle using a stationary belt sander, disk sander or sanding block.

4. Take a trimmed vertical bar and use the notches on the SDL bar to mark on the window the location of the SDL bar horizontal SDL bars. Repeat on the other side of glass. 5. Assemble the vertical and Notches to mark horizontal bars together and center bars on the glass at the frame markings without removing the tape backing. Mark the amount of horizontal bar to trim if necessary. There should be 0.015" to 0.020" clearance on each side to allow for expansion and contraction. A business card can be used as the shim. Mark each SDL bar with it’s location (top, bottom, center, etc.) 6. Disassemble the bars. Trim bars at appropriate angle to the correct length. Clean any trimming residue from tape using 70% isopropyl alcohol. 7. Assemble the horizontal and vertical SDL bars. Use masking tape to secure the SDL bars together at the joints. Peel off the tape backing from all of the SDL bars.

8. Lightly place the tips of small zip ties or coffee Adhesive backing stir sticks roughly 1/8" onto the adhesive backs Stir stick or zip tie as shown. For each of the SDL bars, position one zip tie at each end SDL bar 1/8" of the SDL bar and at each joint and 1-2 zip ties in the middle of the SDL bar. This will keep the adhesive backing off the glass during final positioning. 9. Clean the glass surface with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Wipe the glass and allow to dry before applying SDL bars to glass surface. 10. Position the SDL grid onto the glass using the marks made on the window. Check to ensure that for all window to SDL ends, there is a 0.015" to 0.020" gap between SDL bar and door. Once in position, press down on all ends opposite the zip tie to secure the position and then pull out zip tie. Once all ends are attached, pull out middle zip ties from the SDL bars. 11. Using a laminate roller, roll firmly along the entire length of the vertical and horizontal SDL bars. Flip window over and look through interior side to ensure all SDL bars are adhered securely to the glass. Once attached, remove the masking tape. 12. Repeat for the interior side of the window. Ensure interior bars line up to exterior SDL bars when aligning and trimming the interior SDL grid. NOTE: For Non-Interlocking Bar Patterns, center vertical or horizontal bars across the opening and follow steps above to apply.
