Level A – Associate Lecturer A Level A teaching focused academic is required to undertake teaching and teaching-related work within the Core First Year program.

Position Context
The College of Science, Health & Engineering offers a large range of entry-level professional programs in Allied Health, Nursing, Midwifery as well as undergraduate health sciences programs and specialty post-graduate programs. Health Sciences is unique in that it offers a Core First Year (CFY) undergraduate teaching program that is delivered at the Melbourne, Bendigo, Albury-Wodonga, Mildura, Shepparton and Sydney Campuses and which forms the foundation year for 22 Health Sciences courses, including the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Medical Classification)/Bachelor of Health Information Management. Within the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Medical Classification)/Bachelor of Health Information Management, the CFY is comprised of 6 core subjects, 1 compulsory discipline-specific subject and 1 elective across the academic teaching year. The core curriculum encompasses teaching in the following areas: human physiology and anatomy, interprofessional practice, psychology, evidence-based research practice and medical terminology. The CFY is taught using an Enquiry-Based Learning (EBL) approach and adopts a blended learning mode of teaching and learning in alignment with the University’s Digital Learning Strategy (2015-2017). The College is committed to developing and retaining the best possible teaching staff for first year undergraduate students in Health. The College is seeking to recruit experienced and dynamic teaching staff to teach a set curriculum in the CFY program across the academic year. These staff will not be permitted to have coordination or significant administration responsibilities but will however be expected to academically support first year students in their transition to University and deliver the CFY curriculum.

Duties at this level may include:
•
Interpreting pre-designed subject curricula using evidence-based pedagogies, under the guidance of subject coordinators as part of a teaching team.
•
Provide advice and assistance to students on academic matters relating to their unit, refer students to relevant support or administrative staff as necessary.
•
Marking assessment and administration, primarily connected with the subject in which the academic teaches.
•
Attendance at meetings associated with the Subject (i.e., induction, marking moderation, training) and the Core First Year as required.
•
Contribute to and participate in professional development programs [teaching and learning, and discipline specific].
•
Undertaking other duties commensurate with the classification and scope of duties of the position as required by the Core First Year Coordinator.
•
Liaise with the administration staff regarding student assessment processes and outcomes for nominated courses including, but not limited to, internal and external moderation activities, students at-risk, student program progression; record keeping of all assessment items implemented within each program, and academic misconduct.

Key Selection Criteria
ESSENTIAL •
Completion of a Bachelor and Honours degree, or postgraduate qualification, in a discipline relevant to the CFY teaching areas;

Demonstrated experience in undergraduate teaching in human physiology and anatomy, interprofessional practice, psychology, sociology, evidence-based research practice or allied health disciplines.
•
Demonstrated understanding of effective teaching methods and pedagogies.
•
High level oral and written communication skills.
•
Demonstrated ability to work as a team member with people from diverse backgrounds in a collaborative and collegial manner
•
Demonstrated high levels of self-motivation and personal management skills.
DESIRABLE
•
Graduate Certificate in Higher Education or evidence of equivalent professional preparation for HE teaching.
•
Prior teaching at a first year level.
•
Experience with Turnitin and the Moodle Learning Management System.
•
Experience working in a multicultural education environment.
