SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER First Reading: Acts 7:55- 60 Stephen was filled with the Holy Spirit, and described seeing Jesus standing at God's right hand. Then he was dragged away and stoned to death before many witnesses who did not believe his words. Before dying he cried, "Lord, do no hold this sin against them." Second Reading: Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17, 20 John hears a voice saying, "Remember I am coming soon!" This messenger for Jesus says that he will come to reward those who are deserving. Those who hear the call of the Spirit are encouraged to answer by accepting Jesus. Gospel: John 17:20- 26 Jesus prays for all the people who will believe in him through the words of his disciples. His prayer is that the world will live in unity, with Jesus living in us as he lives in God. Although we have not known God, we know Jesus was sent by God because of his love for us. He prays that this love will live on in all people.

NEXT SUNDAY – MAY 15 IS THE FEAST OF PENTECOST It is a special day not only for the Universal Church – it’s Birthday of the Church – but it is also a very a special day for Saint Joseph’s here in Alexandria. That was the day 100 years ago when our Parish Church was dedicated. It took place on May 14, 1916. So on the Feast of Pentecost we will remember our church’s dedication at each Mass and then after the 11:00 a.m. Mass we will bless the Virgin Mary’s Grotto, bury our Time Capsule inside the shrine and celebrate our May Crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This Grotto is a memorial to our first 100 years and a monument to the future generations as they “embrace the future” and take the parish into the next 100 years. “Ad multos annos!” Our Church’s Softball Team - Come out and cheer for St. Joseph’s Softball Team as they take on other area churches. Next game is at Four Mile Run Park, 3700 Commonwealth Ave., Alexandria, VA on May 12 at 7:45 p.m. Bring the family! ATTENTION ALL NEW PARISHIONERS – You are invited to our Parish Welcome Brunch – come this Saturday, May 14, Noon to 2 p.m., in the parish Hall. If you can attend, please RSVP as soon as possible by calling the Rectory or reply by email [email protected]. We wish to welcome all new parishioners and their families – if you haven’t been to one of these as of yet – you are invited! MARY’S GROTTO - The Dedication of Our Blessed Mother’s Grotto will be next Sunday after the 11:00 a.m. Mass. We will process to the Grotto, bury our Time Capsule into the Grotto itself and then bless and dedicate the Grotto to the Virgin Mary. Having done that, we will have our very first May Crowning right there. Be sure to explore the Grotto area later that day or any day thereafter. There are benches for sitting to pray or meditate or relax with our holy Mother, Mary. Note that the Grotto’s curved wall itself and arms of Mary are open to all people in a symbol of gathering - as we “Embrace the Future” for generations to come. To God be the glory for the good things He has done! Amen.
