Share the Light Family Advent

Advent means “coming.” During Christmas we celebrate advent as a way to thank God for sending Jesus to us. Set aside a few minutes this week to do this advent devotional with your family.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11 Say

Today we celebrate the light of peace. Peace is when no one is fighting or arguing and people are getting along. Before Jesus came, the people of Israel looked forward to a king who would protect them and who would bring peace. The birth of Jesus brought a new kind of peace for everyone everywhere, not just the Israelites.

Are there times when you feel frustrated or afraid? How does knowing that Jesus came to bring peace help you in those situations?

Pray

Thank you God for fulfilling your promise to bring peace by sending us Jesus. Help us to live peacefully with our friends, family and neighbors so we can show them the love of Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Do

Grab a small bag of your family’s favorite sweet or salty snack and put it in a bowl in your kitchen or living room. This week, whenever you see another family member responding to someone with peace, give them a piece of the snack and thank them for bringing the light of peace into your home. Parents, you could try this at work too!
