PRELUDE “Jesus Loves Me”

arr. Donald Hustad

WELCOME and RELATIONSHIPS of PEACE OPENING HYMN “Beautiful Savior” [LW 507] INVOCATION P: We begin in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. PRAYER OF CONFESSION P: Heavenly Father, we praise you for adopting us as your children and making us heirs of eternal life in your Son Jesus Christ, who has freed us from our sins by his blood. C: Yet we still fail to love you with all our heart, or serve you as we should. Pardon our offenses, we pray, and make us clean, that we may continue as the family of God in Christ, in whom alone is salvation. P: Psalm 103 - For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is God’s love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our sins from us. Children of God, your sins are forgiven in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. C: Amen NEW TESTAMENT LESSON 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 [NIV] 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. R: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God!

HOLY GOSPEL John 21:15-19 [NIV 84] 15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” 16Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” 17The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!” P: Christ is Risen! C: He is risen indeed! Alleluia! A BLESSING for the WOMEN of PEACE Men: Dear Lord God, bless the women of Peace, that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Be with the mothers here that grieve, are tired, are worried, are alone – may your Holy Spirit give them comfort. They sacrifice so that we may live. Protect the daughters of this congregation – that they may rise one day to be great mothers in this world. We ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus our Savior, Amen.
