SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

WEEK: 22

GOAL OF TONIGHT Help students see how God’s story intersects with their story and why that matters in their day-to-day life. WELCOME & ICE BREAKER Welcome to Ground Zero! We only have 4 weeks left of small group, can you believe it?? As we get started tonight, let's talk about some things we might want to do together this summer in order to stay in touch. (Leaders -this would be a good time to mention the 3 events we have going on this summer - Trampoline Park (June), Summer Takeover (July 25, 26,27) and Last Chance Summer Blast (a GZ party at all campuses) in August.)

BIBLE VERSES Philippians 4:6-7 (suggested translation NLT)

QUESTIONS TO DISCUSS THE BIBLE VERSES For the last 3 weeks of small group curriculum (the 4th week will be a grade group gathering) we'll be talking about the benefits of knowing Jesus and following him. Many of your students may be following Jesus already, but many may not be, so take these weeks seriously, knowing that one of your students may be very moved and want to follow Jesus as a result of these discussions. This week's benefit of knowing Jesus is PEACE. Read the verses together and then ask these questions: 1. What are some things that middle school students worry about the most? 2. Does worrying usually HELP things get better? Why or why not? 3. What does verse 6 say we should do instead of worrying? 4. What does vs. 7 promise will happen if you pray instead of worry? 5. Vs. 7 actually says that God's peace will "exceed anything we can understand." That means when we should be freaking out, we'll be calm. When we should be devastated, we'll be strong. When we should be crumbled up in a ball on the floor, we'll be standing - the peace God gives us will be UNBELIEVABLE. How does that sound to you? Possible or impossible? Explain that God's peace is one of the BIGGEST and BEST benefits of knowing Jesus because there is NO OTHER WAY to get that peace. No one but Jesus has the power to give out that kind of peace. 6. Leaders -have students think about one thing they have been worrying about that they could pray about instead. Challenge them to take 30 seconds to 1 minute to do that RIGHT NOW.

LEADER INSIGHT This idea of "Peace that goes beyond our understanding" might be really difficult for your students to grasp. Personally stories could help - from you - but also from them. Ask the students to share if they think they may have ever felt this peace from God. I think you'll be surprised at what you hear!

APPLICATION SUGGESTIONS Challenge students to pray for peace this week - while brushing their teeth or riding the bus. Encourage them to EXPECT God to give them that peace. It's his promise to them!
