Small group questions

– Scott Parker March 9, 2014—1410

1. As you think over your life, what kind of relationship have you had with authority? Do you tend to automatically respect authority, or do you feel it needs to be earned? Explain. 2. As we’ve been going through this PRAY series, what new insights or revelations have you had concerning prayer?

1. The __________________________________________________ of prayer “Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.” Ephesians 2:18 (NLT)

3. Have someone read Ephesians 2:18 and Hebrews 4:14-16. How is prayer a privilege? 4. What do you think causes us at times to lose sight of the privilege of prayer? 5. Based on what you know of Jesus, how did he treat the privilege of prayer? 6. Read Mark 14:32-36. With his death imminent, Jesus wrestles with his humanity and his divine calling. What questions does this story stir in you? 7. Why do you think Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him? Did he need them for something?

2. The________________________________ of prayer “‘Abba, Father,’ he cried out, ‘everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.’” Mark 14:36 (NLT)

“All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.”

8. How does Jesus’ final prayer in verse 36 challenge you or encourage you? 9. If you attended Sunday service, Pastor Scott showed us several passages that reveal God’s intent for our lives to give Him glory (see 1 Timothy 1:17, Ephesians 3:21, Jude 25). What is the relationship between our yielding and God’s glory?

Galatians 1:5 (NLT)

10. At what times in life is it most difficult for you to yield to God’s authority in your life? 11. What current yielding challenges do you face? 12. Spend some time together praying through the acrostic P.R.A.Y. Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield.
