SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

WEEK: 18

GOAL OF TONIGHT Help students see how God’s story intersects with their story and why that matters in their day-to-day life. WELCOME & ICE BREAKER Hey friends! Glad you are here this week. Why don't we share one thing that is going on that is GREAT in our lives right now. Something that we are proud of or that is making us happy.

BIBLE VERSES Psalm 121

QUESTIONS TO DISCUSS THE BIBLE VERSES This is one of my favorite Psalms, so I'm going to make a deal with the small groups this week. If your WHOLE group can memorize this Psalm and recite it to your Pastor of Student Ministries by April 1 - I will buy you all Dairy Queen! Ok, now read Psalm 121: 1-4 and answer these questions: 1. Where does this Psalmist say our help comes from? 2. What is one great thing about God that makes him able to take care of us ALL the time? Now read vs. 5-6 and answer these questions: 3. Do you think this psalmist means that God is literally your shade? Do we not have to wear sunscreen anymore? Why or why not? 4. What does it mean, then, that God is standing beside us - what is he really doing? (Leaders- perhaps suggest that it means he is always with us and has our protection as a priority) Now read vs. 7-8 and answer these questions: 5. This says that God watches over our lives. Do you think this means that he directs where we go, or that he just watches where we are going and what we are doing? 6. Think about this Psalm as a whole - how might knowing this Psalm and believing it help us as we go through struggles in life?

LEADER INSIGHT Leaders -this is a poem, so much of the language is metaphorical. You might have to work to help the students understand that. But also because it's a poem - it is a beautiful picture of the way God cares for us. I hope you and the students are moved by the thought of the God of the Universe watching over us with such great care.

APPLICATION SUGGESTIONS I suggest that you challenge the group to memorize this Psalm. Perhaps you can come up with a fun way to do it - 3 verse per week or something.
