PRAYER Begin in prayer asking God to guide your time together. MY STORY 1. Have you ever planted anything in a garden? What grew the best or worst? What did you learn from the experience? DIGGING DEEPER 2. What from Sunday’s message gave you new insight into this passage? Explain? 3. Read Luke 8:1-3. The twelve disciples were with Jesus essentially everywhere He went, but what benefit or possible downside was there to having the entourage of Mary, Joanna, Suzanna and others who the Bible said had been cured of evil spirits and diseases? 4. What conclusion can be drawn from this passage about how Jesus funded ministry? Before becoming a Christian, how did you think that churches paid for ministry? What is your current understanding? 5. Read Luke 8:5-8. What happened to the seed that fell on the: a. Path soil – b. Rocky soil – c. Thorny soil – d. Good soil – 6. Read Luke 8:9. Notice that the disciples asked Jesus what the parable meant. When you are in a group and don’t understand something, what is your tendency? a. In your own words, explain what possible reason(s) could Jesus have for hiding the true meaning of things in parables so that only certain people would understand? TAKING IT HOME 10.
