SOS Outreach Program Coordinator - Tahoe

Member will provide national service at SOS Outreach, at 948 Incline Way, Incline Village, NV 89451, as well as for The Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation AmeriCorps Program, at 948 Incline Way, Incline Village, NV, 89451.

Primary responsibilities: tasks and duties that are fundamental and critical  Scheduling and coordinating service project days  Recruiting partner youth agencies  Recruiting volunteers for the Learn to Ride program  On-hill program days o Gear Distribution o Circle of Love Implementation o Direct Mentorship with participants  Collecting and recording releases, waivers and evaluations  Facilitate Program Graduations  Program Equipment Inventory  Manage database administration for programs including: o Registration and Attendance o Staff and volunteer management o Fee for Service o Pre and Post Evaluation Secondary responsibilities: additional tasks and duties that are preferential but secondary  Research grants in support of SOS Outreach programs as appropriate  Implementation of leadership curriculum and leadership development workshops  Meet SnowCore (one day program) participants and distribute gear as necessary Related Responsibilities: other tasks and duties  Successfully complete all required SOS Outreach trainings

Professionally represent and be a positive ambassador for SOS Outreach in the community Meet with Host Site Supervisor on a weekly basis Attend Host Site staff, committee and board meetings as appropriate Collect and report program statistics Participate in community service days with the Parasol AmeriCorps Program Participate in regular AmeriCorps team meetings every Friday of the first two months of service, and the first and third Fridays thereafter from 9 am to 12 noon at the DWR Community Non-Profit Center in Incline Village, NV Serve in collaborative programs and events at other approved AmeriCorps Host Sites

Required Skills or Qualifications: specific areas of knowledge or skills required to be qualified for the position  Dedication and responsibility to the position and the AmeriCorps service contract  Experience, comfort, and passion in working with disadvantaged youth  Intermediate skier or snowboarder, experience with outdoor adventure sports  Awareness of factors impacting the lives of underserved youth  Experience with service learning for youth  Organized, systematic worker  Excellent written and oral communication skills  Valid Driver’s License  Ability to lead and motivate others  Proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite  Must be at least 18 years old  Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the U.S.  A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, however some college combined with work experience may substitute for a degree  Significant experience with community service and/or non-profit organization work

Benefits/Experience Gained: As an integral member of a small regional team, the AmeriCorps member will gain extensive experience in organization development, program implementation and volunteer management. He/she will be responsible for day-to-day program operation, including outreach to partner organizations, participant registration, volunteer recruitment, and day-of logistics. He/she will develop communication and organization skills as they facilitate programs for participants from across the state. He/she will also learn risk-management practices as they manage a program involving outdoor and community based activities. The AmeriCorps member will also have the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the youth development and nonprofit fields. As the Americorps works with the Program Director to establish a year round curriculum he/she will gain an acute understanding of the challenges and rewards of nonprofit work. Through SOS’s established

presence in the Tahoe nonprofit community he/she will have the opportunity to complete trainings to support their growth and will be encouraged to bring their lessons learned back to the organization. He/she will be able to attend events to build relationships with new and existing partner youth agencies and community advocates to network SOS in the community and develop personal capital through the term of service. He/she will also be able to participate in webinars and conferences to develop professional skills and to introduce those skills to the organization.

Additional Guidelines: Dress Code:  AmeriCorps members must always wear AmeriCorps gear while serving. The gear is provided by the AmeriCorps Program  AmeriCorps members are expected to dress conservatively and in accordance to the rules established at their host agency Vulnerable Populations:  This position has access to vulnerable populations defined as children age 17 years or younger; individuals age 60 years or older; or individuals with disabilities  Member may not have unescorted access to vulnerable populations until background check results are received Nonduplication and Nondisplacement:  This position does not duplicate work of previous or existing employees or volunteers, supplant the hiring of workers, or include service or duties that are performed by a current employee, an employee who recently resigned or was discharged, an employee subject to a reduction in work, or an employee who is on leave. Below is a general representation of an average service week. Actual service time will vary due to special events and organizational needs.
