Small Group Discussion Guide Acts 20:7-38 1. Have you ever been part of an emotional goodbye? As you’re comfortable, share what that was like. What were some things that were said?

2. Take a few minutes to read Paul’s goodbye to the Ephesian church leaders (Acts 20:1838). Does this sound like a typical way to say goodbye? Why or why not?

3. The very last thing that Paul includes in his farewell speech is a quote from Jesus, who said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” What does that tell us about the magnitude of the statement? Have you found this to be true in your life? Feel free to share some examples.

4. A Greek word study defines someone who is blessed as “one who is in the world yet independent of the world. His satisfaction comes from God and not from favorable circumstances.” Paul teaches (quoting Jesus) that this comes from a lifestyle of giving. A life of giving is a life blessing. How can we intentionally structure our lives to be more giving?

5. In 20:7-17, just before Paul’s speech to the Ephesian elders, we see him stopping in Troas to say goodbye to some people there. Take a few minutes to read that passage and discuss it. Do you see any similarities between the two speeches? Differences?
