Sports School Resident Counselor Program Dates: June 22-July 30, 2016 (not required to work week of July 4th) Qualifications: 1. Counselors must be at least 18 years old, pass a background check and reside in a University Residence Hall while on duty. 2. Counselors must enforce rules and regulations while supervising campers ages 8-18. 3. Counselors are expected to perform duties responsibly and independently. 4. Must have one year of college education and be in good academic standing (study in education or physical education preferred). 5. High School and/or college sports experience, experience working with or supervising children, and past experience in camp counseling is preferred. Compensation: The starting salary is $300/week, plus room and board. Salary is based on years of experience at the Cornell Sports School or other related experience. General Responsibilities: 1. Responsible for the safety, physical well-being and behavior of sports campers. 2. Assume leadership and guidance of campers ages 8-18 in the residence hall, at meals, while escorting campers to/from camp sessions and during recreation/free-time. 3. Perform an assigned duty at camper check-in and check-out. Specific Responsibilities 1. Man a station at camper check-in and provide friendly customer service. 2. Supervise a group of ten campers during travel to and from daily activities, while at meals, during evening recreation and during campers’ free-time. 3. Supervise campers in the residence hall and perform nightly room checks. 4. Oversee campers during weekly fire-drill. 5. Wake campers each morning and escort to breakfast. 6. Monitor the cleanliness and safety of campers’ rooms. 7. Enforce the health and safety regulations of the New York State Dept. of Health and the Summer Sports School. Report all health needs of campers to appropriate medical staff. 8. Document the condition of the campers’ rooms at camper check-out and assist with the check-out process. 9. Assist the Summer Sports School staff and Campus Life Staff with closing procedures at the end of the summer.
