Springfield Baptist Church Newsletter Spring Edition 2018

Dr. James D. Ballard

News Flash: God gives power to the faint; and to those who have no might, He increases their strength. Even the young and strong become weak and weary, and young men grow tired and fall down. But those who depend on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be overcome by weariness. They shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:29-31 Paraphrased) A few days ago, simply by contrast, nature vividly reminded me of a truth that I already knew. I have Zenith Zoysia grass growing in my front yard and Kentucky Tall Fescue grass growing in the back. The back yard stays green all year long, if the water supply is sufficient. However, when the weather turns cold, the grass in the front yard dies to a mustard colored brown and stays that way all winter, until the weather begins to warm up in spring. Then the grass in the front yard begins to turn green again. It does not turn green all at once, but blade by blade you can see an increasing number of green blades until such time as the whole front yard becomes green all over. Meanwhile, while the grass is gradually turning greener and greener, the process reminds me that winter is over, the weather is warming, and spring is just around the corner. It is a new season in the life of nature. Trees are budding; flowers are blooming; and shrubbery is bursting out. Bees are buzzing; insects are in motion; and the beautiful butterflies are leaping from plant to plant. Squirrels are running; birds are flying; and rabbits are hopping about and leaping for joy. What a wonderful time of year! Energy is everywhere. Nature is alive. The whole atmosphere is invigorating, as nature seems to be waking up all around us. Life seems to be refreshing and renewing itself. The same can be true in your life as well. That is the nature, the mission, the vision, and the aspiration of Springfield Baptist Church. Springfield offers a place and an opportunity for renewal, refreshing, reviving. Why not take advantage of this wonderful opportunity? At Springfield, there is a pew for every person, a ministry for every misery, a heart for every hurt, and a warm, welcoming handshake for every person who feels that he or she has no home. There are no strangers at Springfield. There are some people whom we do not know, but they are not strangers. We just have not met them yet. Come sit with us, sing with us, worship with us, pray and praise with us, and, like us, you will find that God will give you joy for your saddest day, light for your darkest night, and hope for your most uncertain tomorrow. He will also give you strength for your labor, food for your soul, and peace for your life. I was a wand'ring sheep, I did not love the fold; I did not love my Shepherd's voice, I would not be controlled: I was a wayward child, I did not love my home; I did not love my Father's voice, I loved afar to roam.. The Shepherd sought His sheep, The Father sought His child; He followed me o'er vale and hill, O'er deserts waste and wild: He found me nigh to death, Famished and faint and lone; He bound me with the bands of love, He saved the wand'ring one. Jesus my Shepherd is; 'Twas He that loved my soul, 'Twas He that washed me in His blood, “Twas He that made me whole; 'Twas He that sought the lost, That found the wand'ring sheep; 'Twas He that bro't me to the fold, 'Tis He that still doth keep. No more a wand'ring sheep, I love to be controlled; I love my tender Shepherd's voice, I love the peaceful fold: No more a wayward child, I seek no more to roam; I love my heav'nly Father's voice, I love, I love His home. Greetings Brothers & Sisters, We are so thankful to once again have this opportunity to share some thoughts with you. We want you to always know that you are continually in our prayers. Now for clarity, when we pray, it is for our growth together, in every aspect, that the Lord continues to bless us and we will be found pleasing in his sight. The Lord is doing so much through this body of people. We can’t help but to express how important it is that our love for Christ first, and for one another, is never compromised. We are very blessed here at Springfield to have a good representation of seniors, middle-aged, young adults, youth and children that form the Body of Christ. In Genesis 4:9, the Lord asked Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” Cain was not truthful and replied “I don’t know,” then he asked the Lord, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” This is a relevant and foundational part of a church that is looking to be all the Lord would have us to be, to know that we are our brother’s keeper. We would like to share some scriptures with you, that we pray will stimulate your heart, and mind to understand how unity among God’s people is necessary for our growth. Psalm 133:1 “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” (NIV) Ephesians 4:2-3: 2“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” (NIV) Ephesians 4:11-16: 11 “Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” (NIV) In 2002, Hezekiah Walker released a song entitled, “I You Need You To Survive.” First, I have noticed that no matter where this song is sung, it seems to have an influence on the hearts of people. Secondly, this song does not have a lot of different verses but repeats a basic message. I believe this message identifies with the heart that Christ wants us to have for one another. The song’s lyrics are as follows: I need you, you need me, we’re all a part of God’s body Stand with me, agree with me, we’re all a part of God’s body It is His will that every need be supplied You are important to me, I need you to survive I pray for you, you pray for me, I love you, I need you to survive I won’t harm you with words from my mouth I love you, I need you to survive. Thirdly, I believe there is a message in this song which reminds us what the Lord has placed into the hearts of believers. (Continued on Page 5) Spring Edition 2018

“It’s GOD, Forevermore” by Johnny Ray Moore Right from the very start of time, Our GOD was in control. His Grace and Mercy was enough, So wondrous to behold! The earth was void; there was no light, A right to life, not given. But, gracious as our Father was, Our lives are now worth living. GOD fashioned man straight from the soil, And, woman from his side. A special garden was their home, And there they did reside. Ole Satan came and offered fruit, The woman he did frame. She shared that fruit with her true love, And, life did quickly change! For reasons we may never know, GOD set the world in motion. Creating all things, big and small Oh, what a blessed notion! So, as we journey, day by day, And drama steals our joy. We must remember who’s in charge,

It’s GOD, forevermore. Page 4

Newsletter Theme Synopsis (The theme synopsis is a new addition to SCN where various members of the clergy will expound on the selected quarterly newsletter theme.)

In the Beginning . . . (Genesis 1:1) Synopsis by Rev. Sanya King In His absolute power and authority, God created the heavens and the earth. Out of nothing, He prepared, formed and fashioned the universe. Only He could do this as only God existed before time began. Psalm 90:2 states “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.” He is and always was. And because of His omnipresence, He is there with us in our every beginning. As is our custom at Springfield, we recently installed leaders for our ministries. Whether the leadership personnel are newly installed or continuing on, we are all faced with the newness that this year, 2018, brings. None of us have walked the full measure of its 365 days. So in some aspect, it is a new beginning for all of us. Thus, the theme for this newsletter is taken from Genesis 1:1. As I consider this new year of service, and contemplate the newsletter’s theme, it is my prayer that we all keep the one true, triune God as the focus of our new beginning. God is our very source and foundation. Without Him, we can do nothing. May we all place Him at our every beginning – the beginning of every meeting and every act of service. May we place Him before every word we speak and every thought we think. In everything we do, let’s endeavor to always give Him due honor and glory. Place Him at the beginning, and trust Him to lead us and guide us through it all. (Continued from Page 3) Colossians 3:12-17 gives encouraging words from the Apostle Paul’s writing. It states 12“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (NIV) Lastly, using a little imagination, picture a heavenly newsletter. When you turn the page to Springfield Baptist Church, you will see the Apostle Paul’s instructions to the Philippian Church, where we also are reminded in Philippians 1:27-30: 27“Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News. 28 Don’t be intimidated in any way by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved, even by God himself. 29 For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for him. 30 We are in this struggle together. You have seen my struggle in the past, and you know that I am still in the midst of it.” NLT Representing the Deacon’s Ministry - we love, and appreciate you. Dec. James A. Gibson, II Chairman of the Deacon’s Ministry

Kick Off Fellowship The Holy Spirit was definitely in attendance when we came together for the Women's Ministry Kick Off Fellowship! It felt like a gathering of old friends as we met each other with hugs and song. The game of sharing something new and interesting about a fellow Sister was wonderful. As we smiled, giggled and truly appreciated all that was shared, our spiritual hearts grew by leaps and bounds. The delicious assortment of heart healthy food was definitely nourishment to our bodies. The Healthy Heart presentation, provided by the Health Care Ministry, explained what a healthy heart looks like and the do's and don'ts of a healthy lifestyle. That informative lesson initiated in depth discussion and personal stories about the impact of their own health practices. In the end, our time together was a blessing to each and every Sister in attendance. As you will see in the photos, we can all come together as Christian women to represent the benefits of a healthy physical heart, while reflecting the beauty of a truly blessed spiritual heart.

Ministry News HISTORY MINISTRY Famous Words To Ponder As . . .

WE CREATE AND CELEBRATE OUR HERITAGE EVERY DAY “We did not come to fear the future. We came here to shape it”. –Pres. Barack Obama “It is a call for black people of this country to unite, to recognize their heritage, to build a sense of community. It is a call for black people to define their own goals, to lead their own organizations.” –Stokley Carmichael “Someday, we’ll forget the hurt, the reason we cried and who caused us pain. We will finally realize that the secret to being free is not revenge, but letting things unfold in its own way and own time. After all, what matters is not the first, but the last chapter of our life which shows how well we ran the race. So smile, laugh, forgive, believe and love all over again.” –Miss Fiyah “I am not ashamed of my African descent. Africa had great universities before there were any in England and the African was the first man industrious and skillful enough to work in iron.” --Mary Church Terrell “The African-American experience is one of the most important threads in the American tapestry.” –William Harrison Frist “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.” –Psalm 127:3-5 “Schools are the reflection of the society that created them. Nobody is going to give you the education you need to overthrow them. Nobody is going to teach you your true history, teach you your true heroes, if they know that knowledge will help set you free.” –Assata Shakur “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” –Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “If you don’t recount your family history it will be lost. Honor your own stories and tell them too. The tales may not seem very important, but they are what binds families and makes each of us who we are.” –Madeleine L’Engle “People say that slaves were taken from Africa. This is not true. People were taken from Africa… and were made into slaves. –Unknown “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.” –Marcus Garvey “I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me. All I ask is that you respect me as a human being.” –Jackie Robinson

Avoiding Student Debt

Chuck Bentley CEO of Crown, the largest Christian financial ministry in the world,

Higher education is expensive!! A degree is simply the springboard of steps toward a career that ultimately glorifies God. Settling into a career is often a journey, not the direct result of a particular major. One job leads to another and God opens doors. Did you know that you are called to be a faithful steward of your time and your gifts and abilities? Stewardship is not just about finances. It’s anything that God has entrusted to you. Taking time in college to try out degrees or career paths has become astronomically expensive, so taking more than four years or earning impractical degrees is typically unwise. College may not be for everyone. But unfortunately, most Americans have taken on debt to pay for school and you may be one of those with outstanding loans. In 2016, the average student graduated owing more than $37,000. This kind of burden is not the way you want to start your career or next chapter in life! There are many options to get a college degree now with online courses, community college, and scholarship programs. But do you want to know the best way to save money in college? Understanding God’s unique design for you. Getting good grades could save you thousands, but knowing and embracing the purpose God has for your life is invaluable. Jeremiah 29 reminds us that God has a good plan for our lives, and that we must seek after Him always. Psalm 139 tells us of the wonder and creation each of us are and that God knows us before we were even born. If the God of the universe can look at you and know every hair on your head, then He can also give you direction when deciding on a course of education or career path. Ask for wisdom to know what options you should consider for school – maybe community college and living at home for two years is what good stewardship looks like for you. Maybe God has designed you to enter the workforce immediately after high school. You may want to start with an internship to learn on the job skills as you pursue an associate’s degree. Whatever it is that God has designed you to do, commit to it wholeheartedly. Seek wise counsel from others and pray for discernment to know what steps to take. If your children know exactly what they want to study, praise God. If not, be patient and observe what they do in their free time. What do they enjoy studying? Nurture those interests by arranging meetings with professionals in that field so they can gain exposure and learn things they may not have considered. Help them prepare questions so they come away informed and better able to narrow down degree options. This will help them to avoid wasting time and money. Crown’s Career Direct assessment is also a great way to understand yourself and your purpose better. It looks at your personality, interests, skills, and values to help you understand how God designed you. If you are interested in this assessment please contact the ... Ministry News SECURITY WATCH MINISTRY SBC Security Update During this period of preparedness as we await the new and upcoming facility on our campus, we must remember that we all are the first line of safety and security for SBC. We are all responsible for the safety and security of our church and church facilities. We would like to introduce the concept of SBC Friendly Watchman, where we all can participate. Every member should be observant and aware of their surroundings. This is how it works: Four simple steps: Steps Greet every person that looks lost with a smile and an eagerness to help find their way. Walk with them to their desired location and hand them off to the person they are seeking or someone in that area.

Prevention/ Purpose Stopping them from wandering all over the church. Making sure someone is with them always.

Note any uniqueness about them -clothing, hair, complexion, height, and body markings.

Assisting in identifying or describing them later.

Report anything suspicious to security or church leadership at once.

Reporting information in a timely manner will allow appropriate action to be taken.

We are now preparing for our Emergency Evacuation Drill to be announced soon. You will be given prior notice before we drill. We want everyone to be safe and prepared. Thank you and God Bless, Deacon John L. Milner, Chair Deacon Timothy Whitaker, Vice Chair SBC Security Watch Ministry Leaders

Drama Ministry The SBC Drama Ministry Leadership Team is comprised of Judy Parker Wiggins Chair, Drucilla Minifield Vice, Walter Richardson, Shelia Watson, Troy Ellis and advisor Deacon William Dawes. We are a small, but God ordained powerful ministerial leadership team that has had the pleasure of working with our Springfield family in six different productions including a Drama Ministry Workshop since our inception in 2015. Our mission is to channel the gospel message through the creative talents and gifts of drama, music, and visual arts in an innovative way. One of the greatest messages one can communicate is the love of God and the Good News of Jesus Christ. Drama is one catalyst to which the message can be portrayed. As a team we are spirit filled and highly motivated to bring Christian drama to the body of Christ and surrounding communities. 1 Corinthians 9:22 (b), Paul writes: “I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.” What better way to become all things to all people than through the medium of drama? We are currently making plans for a spring and winter production. Casting calls will begin soon!!!

PERSONAL TESTIMONY

Testimony: Barbara F. Williams To God be the glory for all he has done! He is Good and deserves all the praise. On September 2016 a large growth the size of a large walnut was found on the back of my tongue. It was stage three cancer. I began chemo and radiation in October of 2016 and ended in December. The growth was reduced to the size of a small pecan. I never worried, because I knew God was on my side. In June 2017, I went to UNC Chapel Hill for surgery. The lymph nodes on the left and the growth on the right side were cut off, so was the back of my tongue. I had swallowing and speech therapy. It was rough, but God never left me. In February 2018 my scan and check-up showed no cancer. I had no doubt! My hope was in the Lord! Through it all I thank God for my children, my brothers and sisters, family members, friends, ministers and The Deacons of Springfield for all their visits and prayers. I also thank the entire church body for all cards and prayers. God is amazing! Just trust Him and wait on Him. He will keep His promise!

Testimony: Judy Parker Wiggins “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart. Lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path. Proverbs 3: 4-5.” I have always believed in missions on the local, state, national and international level. I know as believers in Christ we all have a mission and it’s up to us to fulfill that mission according to God’s plan for our lives. I have the gift of “helps” and I plan to use this opportunity to help spread the word of the “Great I Am” as well as seek opportunities to help in other capacities. Even though I am going to Ghana as a missionary, I feel God has more in store for me as I make this journey. I am always excited to see where God is working and how I fit into His plan. I don’t understand it all by any means, my role is to acknowledge Him, and He will do the directing. I ask that my brothers and sisters in Christ pray for the preparing, the enduring while there, a safe return, and a covering that only God can provide for our families while we are away.” In the Name of Jesus.

Testimony: Sharon and Mary Hinton (Mission Trip Team Leaders) “We have been a part of ‘Tel International,’ which came from ‘Christians In Action Mission Ministry’ of California for over 20 years. We have had years of training for the task of missions both local and foreign.” “We are so very thankful, pleased and excited over the support from our Springfield Baptist Church leadership and members who accepted the call of the “Great Commission,” GO! We hope that the July 23rd thru August 6th, 2018 Foreign Mission Team’s enthusiasm and zeal will be a drawing tool for others. ‘GO!’ We ask for your continued prayers.” Page 12

Deacon John Milner, a prominent member and leader in Eta Sigma, a local chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., has been awarded that organization’s most coveted and prestigious badge of honor, membership into the Distinguished Service Chapter on July 22, 2017, Detroit Michigan. A public ceremony was held February 11, 2018 officially announcing his induction to his community, the brothers of Phi Beta Sigma, church family, and friends. Over the past 104 years of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity history, only 186 Brothers from a membership covering more than 290,000 men during that period have ever been inducted into the Distinguished Service Chapter. Gaining membership into this most exclusive and select group is based upon documented evidence of one’s exceptional service to his community, religious affiliations, local chapter, regional division, the international organization, and professional achievements.

53rd SELMA BRIDGE CROSSING JUBILEE MARCH 4, 2018 This annual event in Selma, Alabama, commemorates "Bloody Sunday," which occurred March 7, 1965, when a group of about 525 African American demonstrators gathered at Browns Chapel to demand the right to vote. They walked six blocks to Broad Street, then across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, where they were met by more than 50 state troopers and a few dozen posse men on horseback. When the demonstrators refused to turn back, they were brutally beaten. At least 17 were hospitalized, and 40 others received treatment for injuries and the effects of tear gas. The attack, which was broadcast on national television, caught the attention of millions of Americans and became a symbol of the brutal racism of the South. Two weeks later, the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. and 3,200 civil rights protesters marched the 49 miles from Selma to the state capital, Montgomery—an event that prompted Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act. Every year, on the first weekend in March, the Bridge Crossing Jubilee commemorates both the bloody confrontation at the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the march from Selma to Montgomery that followed. Events include a parade, a Miss Jubilee Pageant, a mock trial, Sherrod Gresham and Travis Gresham after and a commemorative march to the bridge. Every five years, celebrants continue all the way to Montgomery. crossing the Edmund Pettis Bridge.

Mission Trip to Ghana Africa By God’s Grace and Mercy, on July 23 through August 6, 2018, seven Springfield (SBC) members will be embarking upon a journey to Ghana, West Africa to serve as missionaries through TEL International Missionary Society of Dallas, TX. It was founded by lifelong missionaries, Rev. Elgin and Mrs. Dorothy Taylor, about 30 years ago. TEL is a renowned missionary group with headquarters in Dallas, TX and Seattle, WA. Mr. Sharon and Mrs. Mary Hinton, who have been involved with TEL for over 20 years, serve as the East Coast Team Leaders and Coordinators for the SBC contingent. Through God’s spiritual guidance, Rev. Taylor has designated our very own Min. Curtis Joyner to serve as the team’s Chief Prayer Warrior. The other five members travelling are Sisters: Felice Alston, Margie Gibson, Veronica Scott, Judy Wiggins and Denise Winters. SBC’s team will be joined by other missionaries from Florida, Texas and Seattle during their layover in London, England. They will fly into the Capital City of Accra, Ghana. They will stay overnight in Accra and will receive a tour of the Cape Coast Castle, where hundreds of enslaved Africans were held until they boarded the slave ships that sailed to the Americas. Upon departing Accra, the team will take a commuter flight into Kumasi, Ghana, followed by a three hour drive via shuttle van to their mission destination of Nkronza, Ghana. Once there, they will reside in the Tel International Mission House. The team is excited, enthusiastic and prayerful about the mission that lies ahead of them. While in Nkronza, the team members will participate in the “Fundamentals of Faith Leadership Conference,” where they will be instructing preachers and teachers of the region. Each representative will be responsible, with the aid of an interpreter, to make a biblically based presentation at various churches in the area. They will speak on topics such as ‘God’s Daily Provisions’, ‘God’s Forgiveness of Sins’ and ‘Assurance of Salvation’ to name a few. The members of the group will also interact with the Ghanaian children through arts and crafts and a Christian puppet show of the team’s creation. They will also visit the water wells, which were dug with aid from the previous missionaries over the years as well as crusade through area streets in attempt to draw others to Christ. Though this trip is one which is coordinated through and sponsored by TEL International, the SBC leadership and membership, through the Church Conference’s approval, has graciously set aside $10,000 in Mission Funds to aid with the travel expenses for our seven representatives. Each person will receive an equal portion of these funds to help defray some their individual travel expenses, which include airfare, ground transportation, lodging, and interpreters. The remaining associated expenses will be covered by each traveler as out-of-pocket and/or through fundraising efforts. The team members are extremely grateful for those of you who have given individual financial gifts towards making this a grand mission. Our missionaries have begun taking the series of necessary immunizations required as well as securing passports, visas and other documentation essential for their journey. They will also be in tow with instructional materials, tokens for the people, insect protection and other necessary gear and supplies. Each of our missionaries is ecstatic and graciously await their departure as they represent Christ and SBC in carrying out the Great Commission, (19) “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, bap-

tizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:19-20.

As they get ready to embark upon this journey, your unwavering, constant prayers, words of encouragement and well wishes are being solicited. Every so often, as warranted, the Springfield website gets a “face lift.” We are excited for you to see the new changes on our site. I won’t bore you with all of the details but let’s just say we’ve streamlined some areas and enhanced others. One of the things you’ll notice right away is an expanded banner area on the homepage. These large graphics are meant to immediately capture the visitor’s attention while informing them of church-wide activities or conveying a Christian message. You will also see increased navigation options on the homepage. Our ministry events, blog posts and news articles are featured along with the latest sermon message, all in an effort to communicate the most recent information upfront. For me, the most exciting addition is the brand new “Events” portal. This area is where all ministry events (provided to the web) will be featured. Visitors will immediately be able to see what’s happening at Springfield, along with the ability to view the entire calendar. You will no longer have to go to a ministry webpage to view their event. And therefore, each ministry will no longer need its own webservant. Instead, we will form a web team. Details are forthcoming. In the meantime, if you’re interested in getting your ministry event featured on our newly redesigned website, please do the following: For PREVIOUSLY APPROVED ministry events, please contact me at: [email protected]. You’ll need to provide the email approval and information on the event. For NEW ministry events, please fill out the associated web advertisement form in the activities request packet. I’m looking forward to our continued partnership for the cause of Christ. Reverend Sanya King Page 18

Sisters and Brothers, Join us on Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. or Wednesdays at 12 noon as we journey through The Gospel Project. This study will take you chronologically through the Bible and the result will be a better and closer relationship with the Almighty God as we live daily. "The Bible has a part to play in the life of the modern world. According to H.L. Hester, "The Heart of Hebrew History: A Study of the Old Testament," (Boardman Press: Nashville, 1980), 10. The Bible . . .

It is still the best interpreter of history. It is still our best guide to moral standards. It has the only solution to our puzzling social, economic and international problems. It alone teaches an ideal social order, the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of men. It stimulates worthy aims; it strengthens the will. It furnishes hope to men in dark despair. It teaches men to worship a loving God. It reveals our need of a Redeemer. It tells us all we know of God. It still pictures a suffering Savior who loves all men and yearns for them to come into a knowledge of the truth. The Gospel Project is a Christ-Centered Chronological Bible Study for All Ages.

Come join us because it's our story, too!

As we move into 2018 we wanted to share our focus and direction with our readers:

 

Our theme this quarter embraces the fact that “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 which is the direction of Bible Study by way of “The Gospel Project Chronological” study for all ages. The Newsletter Ministry has been charged to share the good news of what God has done—because He has done GREAT things. You will notice that we have begun this new quest in this edition with the “Let’s Give Him the Praise” segment. So we want to hear those miraculous testimonies. Faithful readers, SBC members, ministry leaders, etc., please don’t feel slighted if your submission is not included in this edition of the newsletter. The Springfield Chronicles will begin to have more of a web presence. Therefore, you can expect to see your submission featured in the Springfield Chronicles OR on the SBC webpage. Additionally, for ministries in particular, to ensure we glorify God, bring the proper attention to the ministries and fulfill our charge, the “Ministry Spotlight” is being birthed. The Springfield Chronicles is only distributed 4 times per year. As a ministry we often feel as though we miss the opportunity to report on the events that are happening at Springfield…so while some news may come to us—there will be times when we take the proactive approach to go get it. There is a new addition, the “Theme Synopsis,” where various members of the clergy will expound on the selected quarterly newsletter theme. Associate Ministers make sure that the newsletter ministry has your email address.

We thank God and you, our readers, for the opportunity to serve in this capacity. We hope you enjoy and embrace. Spring Edition 2018
