ST. JOHN EARLY CHILDHOOD INTERVENTION PLAN Young children learn naturally by watching their parents, teachers, other children, and by being taught how to do different things. The primary areas in which they develop are: • physical development, including vision, hearing, and motor skills • speech and language development • cognitive development (thinking and learning) • social and emotional development • adaptive (self-help) development • spiritual development Children grow and change at their own rate through a fairly predictable sequence. When these predictable events do not occur on schedule intervention commences. The earlier in a child's life that such potential risks are identified, the greater the chance of reducing the impact of these problems through early intervention. St. John Early Childhood has devised a 3-step early intervention plan to aid teachers and parents to consult with each other in order to identify potential risks and intervene accordingly. 1. The teacher will base their concerns on classroom observations, documentation, screenings, and the “typical” development of a child. 2. The teacher will consult with the Learning Center resource teacher and set-up a conference with the parents regarding the development of their child. 3. The teachers and parents will develop a plan of action for the child. This may involve preliminary testing at the Learning Center with various recommendations. These recommendations may involve consultations with a family Doctor and/or Pediatrician or additional services from Lutheran Family Children Services (LFCS), Special School District or various other entities.
