St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Youth Missioner Ministry Description Job Title: Youth Missioner Supervisor’s Title: Rector Current as of: August, 2013 GENERAL SUMMARY The Youth Missioner is a part-time position responsible for the vision, coordination and management of all ministries with the 6th through 12th graders of Saint Mary’s. The Youth Missioner works to maintain the youth ministry as a vital and integrated part of the Saint Mary’s community. The Youth Missioner should seek to involve the youth in the life of the parish and to nurture in the youth a deep, authentic and abiding relationship with Christ. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES Responsibilities Recruit, train and empower adult volunteers to minister to the youth.

Plan and lead regular EYC meetings and youth events.

Oversee all ministries to 6th through 12th graders including acolytes, mission trips, Confirmation, E.Y.C., and Christian formation classes.

Act as an advocate for the youth in parish affairs

Be available to all youth for pastoral care.

Facilitate the participation of youth in Diocesan activities.

Ministry Management: • Prepare and administrate an annual budget. • Promote & communicate all aspects of the ministry to the youth, parents and parish including a monthly contribution to The Messenger. • Attend meetings, worship and events as needed and requested. • Attend Diocesan Youth Ministry events such as monthly lunches and Continuing Education workshops.

Identify formally and informally key parish members to serve in youth ministry; continue to empower, develop, create, encourage, foster, the importance of youth ministry to the life of the parish; to build for long-term sustainability of youth ministry Lesser Challenges Fostering an atmosphere of prayer, worship, safety and Christian fellowship at all youth events.

Workflow Events and routine actions are part of the larger annual, three year, and five year St. Mary’s youth ministry goals. Other actions such as pastoral visits are in response to direct requests from youth, parents or leaders of the church. Being actively engaged with Diocesan Youth activities and resources is essential Stakeholders Primarily Rector; also Vestry, Ministry Council Diocesan Youth Missioner DIMENSIONS Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No; but this position is responsible for the supervision of lay volunteers

Direct Reports: None Indirect Reports: This position is indirectly responsible for supervising: a group of adult volunteers that support the ministry by helping to lead meetings, prepare for events and provide logistical assistance. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND PROFICIENCY LEVELS Minimum Job Qualifications Education Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma, College graduate (or student) preferred Can you substitute experience for education? Would consider Experience Minimum years in field previous to employment: Two years’ experience as a youth ministry leader or sponsor preferred Required Skills Strong computer skills, ie Word, Excel, Graphics, Social Media, Power Point) Ability to use office-related, creative software and social media (ie Twitter, Facebook, texting, apps) in order to communicate with the parish, youth, and the community. Ability to communicate consistently and effectively is essential. Ability to manage time efficiently and effectively Must be able to work as part of a team, both in regards to the necessary interactions with lay leaders and parents, but as well as with the lay and ordained staff.
