This inaugural weekend distinguishes the who’s, who, making a difference in their community. Mr. Harvey recognized some of the best leaders and organizations in local neighborhoods across the nation. This sizzling hot star-studded event was absolutely amazing. Mr. Harvey brought us four phenomenal days of inspiring activities, entertainment and competitions, which included more than ten other events encompassing the Neighborhood Awards Weekend. It was entertaining, funny, educational, informative and full of fun and laughter. Mr. Harvey spared no expense for his fans; he chose two of Atlanta’s largest venues, the Georgia World Congress Center and the Phillips arena, all located downtown to accommodate the 150,000 attendees who came to support this grand celebration. It was a grand slam at the ticket office, with many of the events sold out! This marks the 12th anniversary for this one- of- a kind Neighborhood Award show, previously held in Las Vegas; however, Mr. Harvey’s love for the people felt it would be more economical to move the show to Atlanta where the majority of the Steve Harvey Morning Show fan-base resides within a seventy mile radius. This four day weekend kicked-off with two hilarious Stand-Up Comedy Jams hosted by Nephew Tommy.

Joy Stealers How did you start you day? Did you greet the morning with the expectation of good things, with the intention of happiness, or did you feel like pulling the covers over your head, and like chicken little, just burying yourself? Your thoughts as you begin your day, is a major factor in determining the level of joy you’ll experience during the day. If you dread what awaits you outside of your door, you may be tempted to stay in bed. I know, you’re saying, ”I can’t stay in bed all day. I have too much to do.” Please understand that you don’t have to be lying in bed to be asleep. If your mind is consumed by negative thoughts, it will rob you of all the joys of life and you will sleep on your blessings. Every day is filled with all kinds of people and situations that can keep you from the wonderful life that you have been given. With all the stress and pressures of life that can come your way, you must make a conscious decision to enjoy your life regardless of your circumstances. You must begin to recognize the “joy stealers” in your life. What are some of your triggers that can rob you and cause you to make a 180 degree turn in your attitude? Anxiety – anxiety plays such a pivotal role in your life as an adult. As a responsible adult, you can’t help but worry about “stuff” that’s going on in your life.

- How To Maintain Joy In Your Life

Whether it be bills, your spouse, your children, your job, or even what you’re going to fix for dinner- there are countless people and/or situations in your daily life that can cause you stress. Family – nobody has the perfect family. As much as you may love your family, problems in your family can arise that test the limits of your patience. Squabbles and internal strife can creep into your spirit and rob you of the joys of life. As a nurturer, it is impossible for you not to internalize what’s happening in your family’s life. Anger – how many times have you been angry at someone for something that happened in the past? You can’t change it, the offender has gone on with their life, yet, you have allowed seeds of malice to take root and bloom in your heart! Anger is one of the worst joy stealers. It can rob you of not only your joy, but also your health. You have to take responsibility for your joy and happiness. If you depend on other people or the lack of drama in your life to provide you with that, you will always be chasing that elusive dream of fulfillment. You are the only one that can steal your joy. You may not always be able to control things that happen in your life but only you have the control over how you internalize and react to situations. You have an endless supply of wonderful things inside of you and no matter what’s going on around you, you can pull from

that supply. Everyone has joy stealer's in their lives. They are the people that walk around blaming other people for their unhappiness. You know who they are. You probably have some coworkers like that or maybe even someone in your family. They want to diminish your possibilities by instilling a sense of hopelessness into your life. You have a choice, will you choose to make your life an adventure or settle and lament in the rut you have built for yourself? There are ways to either find or recapture that joy: Look for what’s right instead of what’s wrong. You can always find something wrong in every situation, circumstance or person in your life. If you truly want joy in your life, take an extra moment and look for the good in life. If you oversleep in the morning and you are late for work, don’t let that ruin your day. The joy is that not only did you wake up but you have a job to go to! Live your life on your own terms. It’s natural to want to be accepted and liked by everyone. But, in order for you to do this, you would have to live up to the expectations of everyone you want to like you. Forget what others expect you to do or what they expect you to be. In order for you to find the beauty in your life, you have to choose what you want out of it and what you want to do with your life. Find your passion and your

purpose! Enjoy this journey called life. How many times have you felt a little let down when you’ve reached a destination or accomplished a mission? Oftentimes, the excitement is in the journey. That’s what your life is, it’s a journey to be enjoyed every step along the way. Life is full of lessons and sometimes those lessons come from failure and disappointment. Look for the lessons in your life, learn from them, grow from them, then move on. Master the art of forgiveness. Forgiveness is the single greatest weapon to fight your joy stealers. It has nothing to do with the other person. Forgiveness is a selfless act. It allows you to cleanse your spirit to release all of the toxins that build up in your body and cause you to be unhappy and miserable. Forgiveness frees you from the control that someone else still has over you to “push your buttons.” Your joy is not found in others, therefore, you should not allow “others” to steal your joy, or more importantly, give your joy away. Your joy is found in your heart and what’s in your heart feeds your thoughts which ultimately fuel your life. Proverbs 17:22 says, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Take personal responsibility for your happiness. Everyone is not a Beethoven, but you do have a voice! Make your own music. Written by: Linda H. Williams

The Olivet Church “Where Families Fellowship In Fayetteville”

Pastor Williams Holmes Robinson, Senior Pastor

The Olivet Church is located at 877 Hwy 314 North, in Fayetteville, GA 30214. This vibrant ministry had its humble beginnings on September 15, 1991 when Pastor Howard W. Creecy Sr. and 28 people saw the vision. The membership continued to grow and additional property next to the church was purchased. Under the leadership of Pastor Howard W. Creecy, Jr., it became necessary to further expand and an additional 10.5 acres of land was purchased for building expansion. God called the founding Pastors home and their “Joshua” was sent to us by God to lead them forward. Pastor William Holmes Robinson leads our congregation as our Servant, Pastor and Teacher. In less than a year, Pastor Robinson’s spirit-filled messages have grown Olivet beyond its capacity. Pastor Robinson’s theme “Let Us Rise Up and Build!” based on scripture Nehemiah 2:18 is taking Olivet even higher, from the concept of building to the actuality of building.

This year The Olivet Church will celebrate their 23rd Church Anniversary during the month of September with our “We’ve Come This Far by Faith - Let Us Rise Up and Build” Winsday Night Worship services and the 23rd Church Anniversary on Sunday, September 28th. For a spirit filled experience, come and worship at 8:00am and 11:00am services. See for yourself, “The Thrill On The Hill.” Written by Linda H. Williams

Heroes Should Not Be Homeless ‘Road to Recovery’ Transitional Housing for the Homeless Veterans

Joseph and Sarah Caring for Veterans House, Veterans bedroom, Denise Leak (founder) and past Board Member. More than one-third of the adult homeless populations have served in the Armed Services. On any given day, as many as 250,000 veterans are living on the streets or in shelters and perhaps twice as many experience homelessness at some point during the course of a year. More than 4,000 homeless veterans live right here in the city of Atlanta, GA. Well Joseph & Sarah Caring for Veterans Inc. (JSCV) is a local 501c3 non-profit organization that has decided to do something about those numbers and the unfortunate position of Homeless Veterans in Metro Atlanta. JSCV was founded by Denise Leak a U.S. Army Retired Senior Non-Commissioned Officer. Ms. Leak felt that the Lord called her to help her less fortunate Brothers and Sisters of Arms when asked why she chose to do this Leak stated that “she felt like this was what God was asking her to do” and that in the military “we are taught to be a team and take care of your Battle Buddy” and for the homeless veterans in our communities are her Battle Buddies and through Joseph & Sarah Caring for Veterans, Inc. she intends to assist her Battles in returning to permanent housing. Ms. Leak states that she would often stop individuals on the street and if they were veterans and needed a place to stay she began calling organizations to see locate empty beds for those she encountered

JSCV was formed in 2010 and began feeding the homeless that lived day to day on the streets of Atlanta. Through their “Feed the Hungry” program, each month Ms. Leak, her Board of Directors and at times volunteers would hit the streets of Atlanta and Feed up to 400 homeless individuals. Along with their ‘Feed the Hungry’ program JSCV would supply the homeless with basic hygiene items which includes soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, blankets, socks, gloves and various other items which JSCV calls their “Street Survival Kit”. As of this year JSCV has fed nearly 4,000 homeless, passed out over 150 blankets and more than 300 Street Survival Kits. In 2012 opened the doors to their first transitional house called JSCVs “Road to Recovery”. Their transitional house is located in historic Vine City just doors away from the house that Martin Luther King called home. Through their “Road to Recovery” program homeless veterans are provided with safe, sober and drug free housing. While in the program they receive Case Management with individualized treatment programs, Life Skills training, Job placement assistance, and other supportive services. When asked what makes JSCV different from other local organizations that provide transitional housing, Ms. Leak.

stated that “Joseph & Sarah Caring for Veterans does just what the names implies, we care for each veteran that enters those doors. We are different because our board is made up of 90% veterans which mean we understand their plight and we can speak their language because we have traveled some of the same roads as the homeless veterans that we serve.” She continued to say “What further makes us different is that we are not so concerned with the quantity of people that we help rather the quality of care and assistance that we can give them, what I mean is this… we do not place 2-3 men in a room like most organizations, and we don’t tell them that they can only stay for 30, 60, or 90 days. We allow each veteran to have his own room and we allow each veteran to remain in the program until we can assist them with moving to permanent housing”. “That is our goal, to help each veteran return to self- sufficiency”. And Joseph & Sarah Caring for Vets is doing just that since opening their doors in June 2012 they have housed nearly 20 veterans of which 18 have moved on and remain in permanent housing. Knowing More of Who You Are A Case for Body, Soul and Spirit 1 Thessalonians 5:23 - And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our lord Jesus Christ . Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is quick, and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even dividing asunder soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Psalm 66:9 – God, which holdeth our souls in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved. Do you truly believe that you are a body, soul and spirit? If you desire to know more about who you are completely then please consider my body, soul and spirit expansive thought. The earth too is body soul and spirit which will empower the awareness of yourself with the powers of creation. Scientifically when referring to the earth we say it is crust, mantle and core. But there is much more to those three layers that we may identify with. The crust is much like our bodies in the sense where the continents shift and change but what the earth is inside is mainly the same. Also, one can change and manipulate the outer flesh with exercise and diet, but who we are spiritually primarily stays the same inside. The mantle takes the middle role of the earth just like our souls are in the middle of body and spirit. The mantle of the earth carries magnetic forces that dictate the seasons of the earth. Coincidently, our souls have a certain pull and connection with people. People with strong souls are elevated to stars or generally become public influence. The soul carries all the mind, will and emotions. And the inner and outer core of the planet is the life of this body we stand on. Spirit is our inner most life source. Imagine the earth surviving with out a core? It seems impossible. But it is quite possible that the body of the earth could leave the earth would still remain able to exist. The more I see my self in the earth, the more I feel nothing can move me but the creator Himself. Our bodies are made up of 70% water, like 70% of the earths body is salt water. The water flows to the shores with the breathe of tide like our involuntary breathing. The wind too, like the ebb and flow of our breathe begins its course at the north pole and takes its circuit south and back again. Does not oxygen begin north at the nose through a cycle and back up north, mouth or nose the head is the north of the body. Can you see it? You have purpose with the earth because the meek will soon inherit the earth and our possessing it now through salvation in their whole body soul and spirit, but first in the spirit. Mastering your spirit with the peace of God is like increasing land in eternity. Our seeds of suffering for our flesh desires on earth now will be works of land, vinyards and beautiful homes on the other side of life. Written by Young Washington
