Connection Group Questions Taken from the sermon on September 21, 2014 I-Connect: Stir Up One Another- Hebrews 10:24-25 •
Ice Breaker: Other than your spouse, who “has your back” spiritually? Is there someone in your life that stirs you up to attempt great things for God?
Questions for “GROUP DISCUSSION” • How has someone “spoken the truth in love” (Eph. 4:15) to you in such a way that it helped you walk more closely with Christ and/or make a good decision? What will you do this week to use that “truth” to grow even closer to Christ? • How do you stir one another up within your own family? What are some biblically appropriate (and inappropriate) ways to influence those close to you toward maturity in Christ?
!! Questions for “PERSONAL GROWTH
Monday- Please study the backdrop to our passage by reading Hebrews 10:1-10. What would you say is man’s greatest problem? What was the former method used for cleansing of sin (Leviticus 4:20; Isaiah 1:11-15) and how did some fall short in this practice? Why was a better provision for sacrifice and forgiveness needed, and what was it?
!Tuesday -Now please read Hebrews 10: 11-18 as well as 1 John 1:8-2:2. How did the provision of Christ, sacrificed for our sins, replace the old law? What was no longer necessary and what are we told that we need not fear? Does this say, in any way, that Christians are no longer sinners? What does it say about our present condition?
!Wednesday -Please read Hebrews 10:19—25 and Mark 15:37-38. How did the sacrifice of Christ open the way for us to approach God? As a part of our symbolically being able to enter the ‘Holy of Holies”, what three-pronged invitation is given? (vv23-25)
!Thursday- Describe what the first two invitations imply: to “draw near” and “hold fast”. How are you sometimes tempted to fall back into former sin patterns? List specific examples of how you can personally “draw near” and “hold fast” to Him on a daily basis. How can doing so fortify you against temptation?
!Friday- Now, please focus on vv24-25 and what it means to “consider” and “stir up” one another. Is the
focus here on what you can get from fellowship in your local assembly, or what you can contribute to it? Look up the word “provoke”. With that in mind, how can you “provoke” others to love and good works? What three virtues are the fruit of this type of fellowship? (v 22-24) What is one specific way that can you encourage and “stir up” a friend to love and glorify God today?
