Why choose Nursing at La Trobe University? • We were the first nursing university course in Australia - our first course commencing in 1974. • We have partnerships with leading Victorian Hospitals. • We have our own teaching space, referred to as Clinical Schools at The Alfred, Austin Health, Northern Health, Royal Melbourne, Mercy Health and The Women’s. • During your final 18 months you will be located at one of our partner hospitals across Melbourne. • Our hospital simulation centres help students prepare for the hospital environment.
• Students undertake their clinical placement in hospitals, gaining experience and confidence in complex healthcare. • Clinical supervision is provided by clinical nurses delivering patient care as well as academic nursing staff from La Trobe. Clinical Placements As nursing student, you will complete 840 hours of placement across the course of your degree. You may be placed in a variety of settings, such as acute, sub-acute and rehabilitation, and could be exposed to various different areas of nursing such as aged care, mental health and primary health care nursing Professional Registration You’ll graduate ready to register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse. English Language Requirement IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0 with no individual band score less than 6.5. Foundation and Diploma students will be required to achieve this level of IELTS before progressing to the bachelor degree from their pathway course.

Pathways into the Bachelor of Nursing Students who miss out on direct entry into the Bachelor of Nursing are eligible to undertake our pathway programs which lead to the bachelor degree.
Foundation Studies for Health and Life Sciences Student who undertake our Foundation program are required to achieve a 65% WAM in the course and 80% WAM in English VXEMHFWWRSURJUHVVWRͤUVW\HDU of the Bachelor of Nursing. All students who achieve the 65% WAM are eligible for a 15% Excellence Scholarship, which is applied for the duration of the bachelor degree.
Diploma of Health Sciences
Scholarships for Pathway Students
Student who undertake our Diploma pathway are required to achieve a 65% WAM in the course to progress to the second year of the Bachelor of Nursing. We have a quota of 60 places available for progressing students. All students who achieve the 65% WAM are eligible for a 15% Excellence Scholarship, which is applied for the duration of the bachelor degree. Please see the back page for details of the scholarships.
Pathway students who progress from Foundation Studies or the Diploma of Health Sciences to the Bachelor of Nursing are eligible for Excellence Scholarships. The scholarships are applied for the entire duration of the bachelor degree. The savings below are based on 2018 course fees.
