OUR PRO GOD VID ES

Everything Changes Except For Our Heavenly Father THIS SUMMER WE ARE CELEBRATING TWO HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATIONS. Alessia lived at Mount of Olives Children’s Village for over 6 years. Alessia has been happily living with her mother, sisters and brother for the past year and we have continued to support her by taking her to school and helping with many of her school expenses. Alessia has applied to the Nursing Program at the University of Baja California in Ensenada. She has written the entrance exams as well and is just waiting for her acceptance in early July. Yino has been at Mount of Olives Children’s Village since 2007. He is joining the military. He has been writing exams as well as taking physical, mental and emotional evaluations. www.missions-network.org Prayer Requests • • Pray for the adjustment to life at Mount of Olives for the 8 new children who are now in our care. • Pray that God would provide all the staffing we need to care for these little ones. • Pray that volunteer and missions group would continue to choose to serve at MoO.

Adios Vasquez Familia! It is hard to believe that it has already been 2 years since Lee, Kaari, David and Anthony arrived at Mount of Olives Children’s Village. They have blessed us all by sharing their many gifts and talents with both children and staff here at Mount of Olives as well as with many in our local community.

Lee, Kaari, David and Anthony Vasquez

In July 2016, Lee and Kaari dedicated one year of service to Mount of Olives Children’s Village and we were blessed when they extended their time for the second year. It will be hard to say “good-bye” as they leave us and start a new life in the Dallas, Texas area. They will truly be missed and our prayer is that they will always consider Mount of Olives Children’s Village their Mexican home and will visit often. May God bless them abundantly in their new adventure!

Fluctuation is a noun that describes movement, sometimes irregular, but often rising and falling in a wave-like pattern. This describes life at Mount of Olives Children’s Village over the past year. We have witnessed a wave of children leave to be reunited with family and we have seen young people move on to lives on their own. We’ve seen a wave of young adults making their way out into the world to jobs, university and careers. These have been times of deep emotions, some leave us with joy at the families doing well and others with sadness as the future seems uncertain. Our heartstrings are tugged as others grow up and set out on their own. Along with these waves, we rest on the promise that God will provide and God will be with them each step of the way. We have recently seen a wave of new children coming into our care, one being Yoselin, returning to us with her little sister. We ask you to keep these precious children in your prayers and also ask that you pray for the staff that have to deal with the changes, the emotions and the effects these waves have on our other children’s lives. Praise God for His constant guidance and for the opportunity to impact the lives of these new children with His love.

Maureen’s Birthday Wishing a happy birthday to co-founder, known affectionately to the kids as “Grandma Maureen”, who blesses the children’s village with all she does. Her management, organization and the love she puts into all she does is so appreciated by the children, houseparents and the guests at MoO. May you be blessed as richly as you have blessed others, Maureen. RV Park and Tenting Area Open The RV Park at Mount of Olives is now fully operational, with a covered community kitchen, showers, bathrooms and laundry facilities. It sits on a small plateau just below the main mission building. Overlooking the valley below, and surrounded by olive groves, it is a beautiful location. There is space for several RVs and tents, it offers stunning views and full amenities. There is nothing quite like the feeling of getting up in the morning, stepping out of your RV or tent and watching the sun rise over the distant hills from this beautiful camping area.

The Soccer “Cancha” Is Complete “Cancha” is the Spanish word for a completely enclosed concrete soccer/ basketball area. What a wonderful addition for Mount of Olives kids! On any given day or evening you will hear the sounds of people having fun and see a lot of action in this area, with kids and adults playing soccer or basketball. Everyone knows what exercise and being outdoors does for a person’s health and well-being; it’s soothing for the soul, not to mention that it’s great for using up a lot of energy. Mooch Racing saw the need for such a facility, and two years ago raced their Baja bug, raising funds to build the floors and walls of the Cancha. What an excellent testament as to how to raise funds for a great cause and have a lot of fun doing it! Others joined in and chain link fencing was installed, completing the project and providing a wonderful recreational area. It is hoped to add bleachers in the future, providing an area from which to watch the activity and the fun.

Quinceañera and 15th Birthday Party The hall was decorated, the food was prepared and the guest had all come to help us celebrate! The Guests of Honour arrived, Selene on the arm of Dani our House Father in House 1. Gade on the arm of Founder, Darrell Graham and Martin was escorted in by Co-Founder Maureen Graham. The Party began to honour these three Young People as they approach adulthood. We served a traditional Mexican meal of Birria, a delicious shredded beef, corn tortillas and salads. Desert was three different flavours of cakes. Speeches, formal waltz’ and then fun dances with everyone made for a super fun evening of celebration.

Angela’s New Office Earlier this year, work was completed on an separate office b u i l d i n g f o r A n g e l a , o u r M e x i c a n D i r e c t o r. It is located just up the driveway from her house and has a lovely view of the playground and entrance to MoO. This has given her a much needed, suitable environment to handle all the clerical work, meet with staff, families and DIF. Previously this work was all done at her kitchen table, or in her bedroom. Meetings were difficult with children always around. The final step was outfitting the office with all the things needed for what she does. A few special touches were added, making it not only an efficient place from which to work, but also a comfortable and pleasant one.
