Free Summer Lunch Program 2016 It is time to begin planning for the Free Summer Lunch Program again this year. This is an Andrew’s House program, provided annually in partnership with the Delaware City Schools Family Resource Center. It’s our volunteers, like you, that make the Summer Lunch program not only possible but successful and fun!
The lunch program will be changing a bit this year. First of all, due to the construction at Woodward Elementary beginning this summer, the lunch will be relocating to Willis Intermediate School. Lunch will be served in the cafeteria. Beginning Tuesday, May 31, 2016 (Monday is Memorial Day) and running through Friday, August 12, 2016, we will be offering a free lunch to anyone, 18 years of age and younger, who arrives at Willis Intermediate School between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm.
We need at least 7 people to help out each day. Volunteers will help with such things as opening those difficult to open items, keeping the lunch tables clean, conducting lunch counts, sanitizing hands, and on Fridays, passing out back packs full of food for the weekend. Additionally, due to the high volume of traffic on William Street and the number of children that will be walking from the Woodward neighborhood, we are requesting an additional 2-3 volunteers each day to serve as crossing guards. Crossing guards will be asked to arrive between 11:15am and 11:30am and stay until 1:00pm. And of course, we also need partners who are willing to come and provide a fun activity for the children once they are done eating. We will begin setting up for the lunch program at around 11:45am and usually finish cleaning up around 1:15pm.
