APRIL 16, 2015 back on Sunday, May 17th, leaving them at the altar during our special communion celebration. On May 24th, we will announce our results. This campaign will be a success if, to quote Deborah Griffith, “Your commitment to this debt elimination campaign (is) over, above, besides and otherwise in addition to your regular giving.” We as a congregation must be BOLD in our faith, BOLD in our commitment and BOLD in our gifts in order for the campaign to be a success.

A bold Commitment

By Kenny Beauvias, Campaign Chairman This Sunday, April 19, marks the beginning of our BOLD campaign to eliminate our debt as a church. As most of you know our Building Campaign provided for a variety of improvements to our facilities: • The open fellowship area that provides ample gathering space each Sunday for our church family • Light, sound and stage improvements to Anderson Hall that is the home of our River Service • Numerous gentle ramps to completely access our first floor • An elevator giving us even greater access to our 2nd and 3rd floors • State of the art choir room, choir library and robing rooms • A new parlor adjacent to Fellowship Hall • An expanded brides room and meeting room with media capabilities • Plus other numerous, “behind the scenes” mechanical, sound and video updates that keep Broadmoor functioning at an optimum level

Yet our work is not done; we are beginning this BOLD campaign to pay for these many improvements. Less than a year ago, Dr. Greg Davis was appointed to Broadmoor, and very early on he knew that this debt was the “elephant” in the room. He knew that it must be addressed and he assembled a leadership team to do just that. Our church has never had a campaign that has raised $4,000,000. This is the amount we need to eliminate our indebtedness. Our Pastor of Administration, Rev. Terry Love, labeled the campaign as BOLD and no doubt that is an accurate characterization. Over the next few Sundays you will hear from various church members as they express their thoughts about the campaign and what Broadmoor means to them. On May 3rd, we will “commission” 60 of our leaders to deliver a pledge packet to the doors of our contributors--no in-house visits will be necessary. Our goal is to distribute nearly 400 packets on that Sunday afternoon. Other members of the congregation will receive their packet by mail. In each packet will be a complete description of the campaign, a pledge card for the campaign and a return envelope. On May 10th, we will hold a prayer vigil for the campaign as we seek God’s guidance in our personal giving and the future of Broadmoor. Our goal is to have you bring your pledge cards

Burnt Offerings 2015 | Sunday, April 26 Fun and Fellowship are just about the corner! In less than two weeks we will hold our annual Burnt Offerings Cook-off, a fundraiser for our Missions Ministry and one of the highlights of the Broadmoor calendar. The event will take place on Sunday, April 26 from 5-7 p.m. in Anderson Hall. We are still looking for those interested in being a chef, which involves cooking a "signature dish" -- appetizer, entree, side, or dessert -- and providing 150-200 "samples" of your dish. The attendees will in turn sample each dish and vote on their favorites. To sign up to be a Burnt Offerings chef, please fill out a registration card at the Welcome Center or Reception Desk, or online at www.broadmoorumc.org. Tickets for Burnt Offerings are $10 for adults and $5 for youth and children, with a maximum limit of $30 per family. You may purchase your ticket on Sunday morning at the Welcome Center or during weekday business hours at the Reception Desk. Please contact Lauren Little with any questions, 318-751-8316 or [email protected].

Prayer Faithful Christ, we confess to You that our faith waivers and falls short. We allow doubts and fears to enter our lives and control our choices. We doubt the goodness of you and others. We doubt our own ability to be of any help or hope to the world. We need to be reminded that forgiveness is always available, and that we through Christ also have the power and grace to forgive others. Christ, forgive us for our doubts and fears. Forgive us when we hold back instead of letting go. Empower us to stay on your path of faithfulness. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Beauty for Ashes | Now - May 3 Please join us in our annual ministry opportunity, “Beauty for Ashes.” From now through May 3rd we will be collecting makeup bags filled with travel sized toiletries, face masks, lotions, etc. to give to the women at the Shreveport Rescue Mission for Mother’s Day. This year we received a donation of 25 bags so we are especially in need of supplies to fill them. We want all women to feel special and pampered so we are asking for name brand items such as Pantene Shampoo, Bath and Body Bath gel…(Please no hotel samples, razors or mouthwash). Donation boxes will be set up at the Welcome Center and near the reception area. Monetary donations are also accepted. $10 would cover the cost of one make-up bag filled with supplies. Please make checks out to Broadmoor UMC and in the memo section write “Beauty for Ashes.” If you have any questions you may contact Kelie Taylor at 318.572.8553.

Youth Stock Sale | Begins April 20 Beginning on April 20 we will hold our annual Stock Sale fundraiser for youth summer missions. Church members will receive a phone call from one of our students selling "stock shares" in our summer projects, CSM Chicago and Weekend of the Cross. This investment isn't just financial, its spiritual. By purchasing $20 shares of stock in our youth ministry you will be investing in their spiritual development and their work to share God's love. You will see returns on your investment through a stronger youth ministry and, in turn, a stronger church. Please be praying and thinking over the next few weeks about what you can offer to our ministry through the Stock Sale!

Faith Works Volunteers Needed! Faith Works in Caddo-Bossier is a new nonprofit composed of faith-based groups that have come together to connect people in need with the community agencies that are ready to help. Housed at Hope Connections, Faith Works will offer a free call center to provide churches with information about area resources so they will be better equipped to respond to persons seeking assistance.

The organizing churches are Broadmoor United Methodist Church, Noel UMC, Praise Temple Full Gospel Baptist Church, GracePointe Church of the Nazarene, Broadmoor Presbyterian, First Presbyterian and St. John Berchman. We need volunteers! If you have 3 hours a week and would enjoy answering the phone or inputting information into a database we need you! We will have a training coming up on Monday, April 20th at 1:30 p.m. For more information or to volunteer please contact Laura Vaughan at [email protected] or 318.861.0586.

Join the Welcome Center Team One of the marks of a true Christian that Paul mentions in Romans is "extending hospitality to strangers." Broadmoor offers hospitality to members and newcomers especially in its lovely Fellowship Hall. There are not only friendly greetings and refreshments - there is also our Welcome Center where informed volunteers assist both members and guests by answering their questions and by providing other services. Beginning on Sunday, April 26, The Welcome Center will be seeking additional volunteers for our hospitality ministry. Can you give twenty minutes of service per month to this important ministry? Our goal is to have two volunteers at each of the periods when people fill the Fellowship Hall. Jesus taught us that when we welcome the stranger, we welcome Christ himself. "Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me." Please prayerfully consider becoming a part of the Welcome Center Team. For more information, please ask any volunteer at the Welcome Center.

Sunday School Class Care Ministers Needed Attention to all Sunday school classes: Care Ministers are needed again. If your class already has a care ministry in place, please make sure Rev. Kathy Wafer knows who to contact. When we know of someone in your class that is in the hospital, we can call the care minister to inform the class. That way your class can provide cards, flowers or meals, etc. to the family in need. A care minister also sends out cards to those who have missed coming to Sunday school and those who visit. In each Sunday school folder there will be a sign up sheet to fill out and place back in the folder for us to record your name and number. If you have any questions, please email Rev. Kathy Wafer at [email protected]. Thank you!

A CARING PEOPLE SHARING CHRIST'S LOVE WITH ALL

BROADMOOR IS ... "Broadmoor has really been like my extended family over the years. My children grew up and moved away, so we don't have much else in the way of family other than our church!" -Cherrie Robinson #PeOPLeOFBROADMOOR 2015 Russian Mission to Ekaterinburg, Russia in the following ways: 1. Purchase Vacation Bible School supplies for 100 children ($1000.00) 2. Purchase copies of a Christian resource book (100 copies - $8.00 each)

Russia Missions Update

By James Gillespie, Russia Missions Coordinator As you may know, our church helps support the First United Methodist Church in Ekaterinburg, Russia. Groups from Broadmoor have been going to Ekaterinburg since 1991 to lead Vacation Bible School, Bible Studies, visit in orphanages, prepare food baskets for the elderly, and construction work on the church. I will be going to Ekaterinburg on June 2nd bringing materials and supplies for VBS for over 100 children. In addition we will have three days of adult Bible studies. I will order 100 copies of a Russian translation of a current Christian book to also distribute. We will be preparing food baskets for the elderly members of the congregation that will be distributed after worship on Sunday. One of the most significant qualities of these ministries is that supporters can know that what they contribute will go directly to the people. The faces of the children, the youth, or the adults are full of excitement as they receive their book, learn in VBS, or receive a food basket. Please consider making a contribution to the

There will be LSU,Dallas Cowboys, and New Orleans Saints Russian stack dolls and Gzhel Russian pottery available. Here's a snapshot from last year's Vacation Bible School. Looks like fun!

T's TOP TEN (#2 & 3)

By T.Wes Moore, Director of Music Ministries Continuing my top ten list of things I have learned while at Broadmoor, here are points two and three. Both of them involve the Celebration Singers. NUMBER TWO I have made no secret about it, I love the youth choir and have enjoyed being with them throughout my four years at Broadmoor. We get to do all of the cool stuff together, including our annual choir tour. For me, the choir tour is a lot like a family vacation because I consider the youth my children. Sure, we have our good and bad moments, but that is how families can be. We are human. But, I care so much about them. We live in a time where many relationships are based on convenience, some may have issues at home or at school, and some may have their only sense of stability in that 4:00 p.m. rehearsal in the choir room. Regardless of why they are present at rehearsal or in worship, they know that I love them and care for them deeply. NUMBER THREE Back in October, when we celebrated the 75th Anniversary, I had the opportunity to share coffee with some of the Celebration Singers alumni who were under the direction and care of John Ricketts. I asked the group to share some choir tour memories and one of them responded “What happens on choir tour stays on choir tour.” The group chuckled, but they were in agreement. I exclaimed “I have that same policy!” So, sisters and brothers, that is all I can say about choir tour. The youth, chaperones, Mary Caldwell, and me make that pact once we step on that bus to disembark for our destination.
