SPEND YOURSELF Post Session 1 Prep

What is our salvation for? - Have students spend some time on this question. It can’t be fully answered in one sitting, but explore the statement Jon Jon said, “If our salvation was just to get us to heaven, why are we beamed up as soon as we accept Christ?” There must be something bigger to our purpose. Explore how our beliefs can affect how we live especially concerning what we believe about what our salvation is for. Revisit the two stories that were introduced, The Capital and The Districts, Huxley and Orwell. Explore the power of the things we fear vs. the things we love. Have students talk about which is worse, being ruined by what we hate or what we love? Hint: It’s fine to decide they’re both worse, it may just depend what situation we find ourselves in. One important point to note, however, is that it is often easier to see how something that we hate is ruinous, but sometimes it is harder to see how a good thing, made into an ultimate thing (an idol, addiction, etc.) can be equally harmful.
