DAY 1 Patience is being able to wait with a cheerful and calm heart and being able to wait to do things instead of doing what we want on our own time. Patience is waiting with a good attitude. Discuss a time where you showed patience? How do you think the other person feels when you show patience? Why do you think patience is important? DAY 2 Have you ever noticed how 2 people can have opposite personalities or likes and dislikes? God sometimes fills families with people who are quite different from each other. To learn to get along with those closest to you, you have to work at being patient with your differences. In 1 Corinthians 13:4, the first word used to describe love is patient. God, in His creativity, made you different from all others. Because of this, you have the opportunity to learn patience. Is there someone you need to be more patient with? What is one thing you can do to show patience to this person? DAY 3 Imagine writing your name with your opposite writing hand. Notice how difficult a simple task becomes when you do it a new way. Your usual way is easier because you’ve trained your muscles in your hand to do certain things, like writing. Just like our muscles, our patience needs to be trained so that it comes more easily and you learn how to handle challenging situations. What are some ways that you can practice patience every day? DAY 4 Being impatient usually means that you are annoyed because things aren’t going your way. What is something that others do that bothers you and tempts you to be impatient? Sometimes when others do wrong, we may want to punish them but the Bible says that getting angry only leads to evil. God wants us to forgive as He forgave us. Discuss a time where you did not show patience and how do you think it made the other person feel?

DAY 5 If you were to work on a challenging craft, it would require patience because it can be tempting to get frustrated or quit, if the project does not take finish quickly or it does not turn out how we imagine. Ideas of a challenging craft could be gluing small objects or threading small beads. The patience used while putting a craft together will pay off in the end, with the time and effort you took to complete the craft. How do you think a challenging craft would turn out if you had not been patient and rushed to finish it? DAY 6 Being patient may be easy for you, but how would you react to someone who may be mean? In the Bible it says, “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love” (Ephesians 4:2). Some people may act mean because they don’t understand something, they are frustrated, or they simply don’t know any better. Maybe they have been treated mean. Our job is to love them and try to help them. To do that, we must have faith and patience. If someone is being mean, how do you think showing patience can help them? DAY 7 Each day we will face situations that test our patience. These can be small things, like someone taking their time when you are in a hurry or very big things, like waiting on God to heal a family member. As we learn to be patient in the small things, God will prepare us to go through the bigger things. Waiting can be hard but God’s timing is perfect. The next time something happens that requires you to wait, it can be easy to lose your patience when you don’t have control over a situation, but remember God is in control. Prayer is a perfect way to seek patience. Knowing that God is in control can help calm you and comfort you with patience. As a family, discuss anything that you can use patience with and pray together for each other.
