September 2015

Temporary ticket hall work in Durward Street Crossrail’s contractor BBMV is carrying out a programme of works in preparation for the opening of the Whitechapel Station temporary ticket hall. We previously advised you that a mobile crane would be set up through the night from 23:00 to 05:00 at the junction of Durward Street and Fulbourne Street on occasions until late August 2015. This activity will now continue during September 2015. This crane will be used for work including the continuing programme of track level scaffolding activity at the western end of Whitechapel Station. Much of this activity will take place during the day and during railway closures, however some of this activity will need to take place at night between 20:00 and 05:00 as a result of the close proximity to the operational railway. The crane will be removed at the end of each shift or as required for emergency access. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. We also previously advised you that an additional crane would be located in the Durward Street compound on the eastern side of the new temporary ticket hall building. This activity has now been re-scheduled to start on Thursday 17 September 2015 for a period of four weeks. This crane will arrive on site and be set up in the late evenings and be de-rigged and removed from site in the early morning. The crane will lift materials between 01:00 and 04:30 when no trains are running. In addition to the works above, we will continue to construct and fit-out the temporary ticket hall. This activity takes place within the actual temporary ticket hall building and any openings , such as doors, are being sealed to prevent noise escaping. This work will take place on a 24 hour basis on Mondays to Sundays. During these works we will endeavour to minimise disruption to the local community. This will include using best practical means to reduce any noise generated by our works.
