Coffee Fellowship 8:30-11:45 a.m.

I don’t know when Christmas began before Thanksgiving. I don’t know when Christmas began before Halloween was celebrated. I do know the first Christmas reference I heard this year was in September. As people called Christian, the apostle Paul asks us to live in the world without being of the world. We are to be living examples of faith in the midst of our everyday lives. Living in the world this fall means hearing about and being bombarded by Christmas references long before the church year begins to think about that special day. I think living in the world without being part of the world means thinking ahead of time about how we will prepare our hearts, our lives, our homes and our families for the marathon of holidays (Halloween, Deer Hunting, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s) before we get there. Living in the world during the holidays means knowing what we value ahead of time, what we really need to do and want to do before we are immersed in requests and expectations. Living in the world without being of the world during the holidays means thinking about how much we can reasonably afford to spend on the season and then sticking to that amount. It means thinking about gifts that will mean more to our children than the box they come in. It means spending time without having to spend money. It means focusing on preparing our hearts, minds and lives for the coming of Christ. It means setting priorities that begin with deepening and growing our faith and end with giving thanks to God for the gift of Jesus. In between we focus on doing those things that add to our awareness of God in our midst. I know this is the kind of musing that usually comes in December. But, thinking about how to be in the world rather than being of the world in the weeks ahead requires thinking and praying now. I look forward to sharing these weeks with you. I look forward to watching our faith priorities being fulfilled. Blessings,

Rev. Carly Kuntz Lead Pastor [email protected] 608.256.9061 ext. 13
