On March 30 , we will have a Special Called Business Meeting regarding the work of the steering committee for the potential 501c3 of the Emma Quire Mission Center. Stephen Mason, Doug Hendrix, Gary Forman, Doug McKinley, Joan Curtis, Karen Rhorer and Gary Scott have worked devotedly to lay the groundwork for this new entity. I am excited about the vista of financial opportunities that will open up because of the incorporation with grants and foundations. First Baptist will remain an integral part of the ministries that happen with the EQMC from a fiscal and participatory perspective, along with having members serve on the newly created board. For those who do not know, we have an absolute gem in Vanessa Garland who is the Coordinator in Owsley County for the Emma Quire Mission Center. She handles all the calendaring and coordination of mission projects for the incoming ministry teams. I want to share with you what her calendar for the EQMC holds as of right now: April 4-6 Second Baptist, Russellville AL April 14-17 Ernie Foster, OH April 28-May 1 Michael & Monica Alton, Springfield IN May 29-June 3 Grace Downtown, Winchester VA June 10-12 Diane Fuqua, Springfield TN June 20-27 Valley View, Louisville KY July 11-16 Versailles Baptist, Versailles KY

Wow! What an amazing ministry FBC Frankfort is a part of in one of the twenty poorest counties in the country. This list makes me acutely aware of just how important our massive renovation project has been over the past few months. We are hosting such an incredible number of church folks from all over who have a passion to help those who are in need. What a difference they will make – and – what a difference you have made in renovating their ‘home away from home’ as they spread the love of God to eastern Kentucky. Thank you!! We will have a 10 year celebration and rededication of the Emma Quire Mission Center on May 1st, 3pm. We will have transportation for those needing it. We will see the renovations, hear from Vanessa, and others about what great things have happened through the center and what’s in store for the days ahead. Please make plans to attend this special event. - Keith Felton www.fbcfrankfort.org

Thanks to all of our children (and their teacher s) who so beautifully helped lead us in worship on Palm Sunday! The waving of palms and singing praises to God gives our kids an opportunity to step inside the story of Jesus’ triumphal entry and further reinforces their understanding that they, too, are a part of God’s wonderful story of salvation. The enthusiasm and joy of our children inspires us all to worship God in Spirit and Truth and to experience God in deeper ways. I’m thankful for a congregation who teaches children so well and who learns from children, too. Save the Dates:

No children’s choirs or missions on Wed, April 6th, due to Spring Break. Sunday, May 15th, is Children’s Day! Our childr en will lead our worship service on Pentecost. We will be rehearsing each Wednesday night. I hope you will be consistent in continuing to bring them to choir and missions as we prepare for this special day. Mon-Thursday, June 13th-16th all kids who have completed 1st- 5th grade are invited to join our middle and highschoolers for a special week of worship, bible study and fun and games. Instead of VBS, we will be changing our format and exploring ways in which Jesus was an advocate for those who tended to be neglected or ignored by others. Children have an innate sense of the presence of God. The Godly Play approach helps them to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience through wonder and play. Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum, the Godly Play method serves children through early, middle, late childhood and beyond. Come join us! FBC is proud to host a free workshop for the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship on Godly Play. A certified Godly Play trainer, Lois Howard will lead volunteers from other KBF churches in a training 9-2 in our setting. Lunch is included. Come and see what Godly Play is and how you can be a part of this program that has meant so much to our children and their families! Register at www.kbf.org

This past Sunday our Music Ministry led us in worship. Each of our ongoing music ministry teams participated. I am thankful for the many individuals who make up these wonderful teams. Some individuals are involved in multiple teams. Each of these teams require commitment of both talent and time. Time is such a precious thing to give. In our world of dozens of choices in almost every aspect of our lives, the gift of time in service is ever more difficult. I admit my frustration with the many conflicts that arise that call individuals away from rehearsals and services, but I also have a renewed sense of gratitude for the time given and shared in ministry through our church. I see it in our music ministry, our work in Owsley County, in our Clothes Closet, Soup Kitchen, Sunday School Teachers, etc., and I am grateful.

As we conclude the Lenten season and prepare for the glorious Easter season I hope you will join me in being grateful for those who so graciously give of themselves in service, and also in taking inventory of how good a steward you are of your time and talents. Our church offers a myriad of opportunities to serve. Whether through the music ministry, teaching, mission causes, visiting, etc., there is definitely a place where your unique talents, gifts, and abilities can be utilized. I pray you have a blessed Easter season. As we experience new life with the coming of Spring, may we experience renewal in our spiritual lives and seek to serve our living Lord with renewed energy and purpose. Come and join a music ministry team this week!

Emma Quire Center Work continues on the Emma Quire Mission Center in Owsley County under Gary Scott’s leadership. Over thirty members have gone to the Center the last two months to work, and many of them have made multiple trips.

The seven guest rooms which can house 28 people are being renovated. The kitchen is in the process of getting a complete makeover. A laundry room has been built at the end of the large room which houses the Food Pantry. Ten years of wear and tear on the facilities are being addressed through these repairs, and I am grateful for everyone who has gone to the Center to make this possible. Your good work will be appreciated by the volunteers who stay at the Center while making hope visible to those who live in this part of Appalachia. You can be a part of this project even if you have not been able to go to Booneville. Money is needed to complete these projects and to furnish the guest rooms with linens, towels, curtains and other supplies. Make a generous donation to fund this good work. Designate Emma Quire Mission Center on your check, and it will be channeled in that direction. 200th Anniversary

Editors note: Julia Rhorer was asked to write an article about what is happening in the Youth Ministry. Below is her submission:

Plans to celebrate our 200th Anniversary are progressing. Remember to circle August 28 on your calendar and contact your out-of-town friends.

Dear Church Family,

It is important former members and staff members know about this special day well in advance so they can make plans to be with us. Don’t assume anyone living elsewhere has heard this good news. Let them know as soon as possible.

I think that Clint Walker has been a great addition to the youth ministry. He has made a good impact on the students and parents here. Clint is a teacher that can teach a lesson without losing most students attention. Plus whenever we leave youth in the mornings or Wednesday nights, most of us will remember what we have been taught. Our lessons are set up so that each student will have a chance to be taught by him. He is never with the high schoolers all of the time and he is never with the middle schoolers all of the time either. Since Clint has been teaching here, I have seen more participation in the lessons and more students start coming to youth. I think that may be because they are having fun and want to learn. Clint has a very musical background. For the first few weeks he has been here, he either has played the guitar or piano for us. He is also willing to help teach you a musical instrument. Just so you can be part of the service. He has always encouraged us to participate in the songs that we sing on Wednesday nights. He wants as many people to join in with an instrument of some kind and sing along. He doesn’t care if you can only play one note on the keyboard or have played a wrong note, he just cares that you did your best, had fun, and you have been part of the youth service. Clint is well appreciated by the whole youth. He is always kind to everyone who comes. He will go out of his way just to get you to be part of the youth in anyway possible. Clint is a great teacher to us all and we all respect him with much love and care just as much as he loves and cares for us. I can see that he loves spending time with the youth and that is what makes him such a great teacher to the youth. - Julia Rhorer

Easter Speaking of celebrations, I look forward to seeing you on Easter, March 27. Invite family members and friends to join you that day as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord. “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!” (Luke 24:5)

These words to the women who went to the tomb where Jesus was buried bring us joy and hope each time we go to the cemetery of broken dreams. We do not mourn as those who have no hope because we serve a God who is always working behind the scenes to bring good out of bad and life out of death. God has done this many times in my life, for which I am eternally grateful. Easter provides me another opportunity to focus my attention upon God’s goodness and to thank God for being so faithful. I warmly welcome you to join me in worship on this special day as we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection and express our deepest level of gratitude to God. Until Sunday, Bob
