For the past few months, Central Christian Church has been preparing for the Regional Assembly to come to our doors and to be hosted by the church. All the work, the sweat, and the details that were put into getting our church ready to have representatives of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) throughout Missouri and other states paid off, as our church was able to host and provide a welcoming atmosphere for the event. The church building looked wonderful as there were 12 workshops that took place on Saturday. The McGinnis Fellowship Hall shined with the new chairs around our tables, as we served lunch to around 200 people on Friday and Saturday. And the sanctuary was full of the presence of God as we worshipped with everyone together, united as one family in Christ. With the different worship services, we were able to hear from voices that we are not able to hear from on a regular basis. On Friday night, we heard from Rev. Dr. Sharon Watkins, the General Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). On Saturday, we were able to worship in a Taize worship service, led by Rev. Emily Bowen-Marler from Brentwood Christian Church. In this contemplative service everyone present was able to bring their voices together to sing praises to God and to contemplate about God’s presence in our lives and our world. Some of the college members of our choir participated and helped to lead the congregation in the singing. And on Sunday, we were able to hear from Ayana JohnsonWatkins, from Memphis, TN, give us a message from a perspective that not many of us can have. With her voice and her stories, we were able to hear how the word of God and the will of God, through the people of God, can go out into the world and make changes for the better. This weekend was full of seeing old friends and making new friends. It was a weekend of strengthening ties with other churches in our state and developing new relationships from which to draw inspiration and help. It was a weekend to learn from voices and experiences that are not ours and to hear stories from those who can tell us how others may be living in our world. This weekend was one of spiritual healing, of growing faith, and of bringing all together as the children of God we are. This was a wonderful weekend and I want to say “Thank You” to everyone at Central Christian Church. It is because of everyone in the church that the weekend went so well and the reason everyone walked away renewed and refreshed to go and try to help the world heal and make it a place that God would be proud. In Christ’s Love for All,
