“For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another. We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us” - Romans 12:4-6a For the past few months I have been talking about the Regional Assembly. We have been preparing for the event by cleaning the church and updating our facilities to be able to accomplish many of the ideas we have for the coming future. Most of what we have done were already plans we were going to do, the Assembly just gave us a reason to get them done ahead of schedule. We have one more Saturday to help put the final touches on the church. On Saturday October 1, we will be working from 9-12 doing a final cleaning/walk through of all that needs to be done. I hope everyone can come by and help, using all of our gifts to accomplish this task. Another reason for the Regional Assembly is the opportunity to come together as members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), to understand the work being done in other areas of Missouri and to learn from their efforts. I have invited the other DoC churches in Springfield to help us with the event. As we are all different churches (lower case “c”), and have different strengths and weaknesses, we are all a part of the one body of Christ, the Church (upper case “C”). In coming together, we can forge friendships and relationships with those from other churches and be able to continue to our work together for the betterment of our churches, our communities, our city, and the entire world. What we do on individual basis is great and wonderful, each church helping all they can with their own means, but if we can come together and utilize the differing strengths of all members, think of how much we can accomplish. So I am asking that as many as are able, come to help with the Assembly, meet other people within our denomination, and most importantly within our own city. By coming together, we can become one body in Christ and continue to follow the footsteps of Christ by working together to show the love of God to all the world. In Christ’s Love for All,

Meet Abby Mercer! Abby Mercer, alto section leader, is a native of Springfield Missouri having graduated from Grace Classical Academy in 2015. While a student at Grace Abby sang in the school choir under the direction of Dr. Sam Coryell but most of her choral experience came from the Springfield Little Theater where she performed in over 15 musical productions. In addition to her service here at Central Christian, Abby attends a home church with her family where she sings and plays the guitar every week (and we hope we’ll be able to hear both soon!). Currently Abby is a Music Therapy major at Drury University and hopes to enter a planned new master’s degree program in music therapy at Drury. Ultimately she hopes to work in a children’s hospital as a music therapist specializing in pediatric trauma or neonatology. Outside of her musical endeavors she loves to read classic books, explorer the outdoors with the family, and invest in her sorority, Pi Beta Phi, and The Vine, a college campus ministry. Abby is the oldest child of David, a federal public defender and Tracy, a volunteer coordinator at the Springfield Little Theater. She has a 17 year old sister, Anna, and 12 year old brother, Avery, both students at Grace Classical Academy. Abby says everyone in her family is musical and enjoys playing bluegrass music together. Her mother acts and the family music manager. Abby found Central Christian due to the outreach efforts of Olivia Heacock and Abby Lang. We are so glad Abby Mercer found us!
Meet Mosha Clyma! Mosha Clyma, soprano section leader, was raised in Raytown, Missouri (a suburb of Kansas City) and graduation from Raytown High School (go Bluejays!) in 2015. While a student at Raytown High she sang in the choir under the direction of Alex Kolster. In addition to her musical experiences in high school she also sang in both the youth and adult choirs at Raytown Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) under the direction of Suanne Comfort. Currently Mosha is a student at Drury University majoring in biology in the nursing program at Drury in conjunction with the Cox College of Nursing. She is also minoring in music. Mosha’s ultimate goal is to work in a children’s hospital as a pediatric nurse with the hope of “putting a smile on a child’s face each day.” In her spare time Mosha enjoys reading, walking her dog, teaching acting classes for children, singing at her home church and in other community events in the Kansas City area over the holidays, and raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through her sorority, Delta Delta Delta. Mosha’s parents are Garry, an electrician supervisor for Kansas City Power & Light, and Rebecca, a buyer for the Kansas City Area Transit Authority. Mosha has no siblings, just an adorable dog named Gracie. Mosha’s mother is also a musician and is an active member of the choir of Raytown Christian Church. Mosha found Central Christian through the efforts of Olivia Heacock. Welcome Mosha!
Crosslines Report for September, 2016 On September 13 food and personal care items were distributed by volunteers from Central and from St. John’s Chapel to 90 families representing 195 individuals. During August, Central members donated 103 pounds of food and personal hygiene items to the Crosslines pantry for distribution. This was the largest one month donation of items to Crosslines in recent years. Many thanks to those who contributed. We are seeking a Central member to substitute for one of Central’s Crosslines workers who will be out of town during next January and February. Responsibilities would involve assisting Crosslines clients to shop for groceries in the Crosslines pantry on the second Tuesday of each month. If you would like to help with this needed outreach, please contact Bob Thurman by phone at 417-887-6796 or by email at
