This morning, Tuesday May 24th, the church’s alarm system went off. It seems the motion detector in the sanctuary was set off, indicating there was movement in the sanctuary. However, after looking around and checking on everything, there was nothing out of place or missing. Two days after I brought out pictures and discussed the spirit of the past ministers helping me each and every day, a mysterious act caused the alarms to go off. This does go to show that I may not be completely off base about the spirits of all those who have known and loved Central Christian Church. In our community we are blessed with everyone who is currently a part of us, but we are also blessed with those who have come in the past and given us direction to where are headed today. The different programs, the different classes, the different ideas that the church still promotes and take part in, is because of the spirit of those who have come before. As a community we are tasked to make sure that everyone is comfortable and accepted within our walls. The Holy Spirit guides us to keep this task, as well as those who have shown us how to be a grateful and loving church. I thank God each and every day that I am a part of a church who has had a great tradition of helping in the community, and a church that keeps that tradition alive and keeps alive the spirits of those who have come before us. The life of the church is strong and alive with God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit. But it is also guided by the spirits of everyone who has been a part of our community, no matter how long, and we are a better community because of that. In Christ’s Love for All

CENTRAL SINGLES: Looking Ahead

The Central Singles group will take a summer break for the months of June, July and August. No planned meetings will take place, but we may decide on an impromptu “lunch out” some Sunday during those summer months. Our regular gatherings will resume in September – tentatively planned for Sunday, Sept. ___(18?), which will be a “Luau” lunch, complete with flowery leis to wear and Hawaiian decorations. So, dust off your colorful Hawaiian shirts or muumuus to wear! More information will follow in late-August. So far, November is still open for suggestions and discussion, and December might be a good time to enjoy a Christmas-themed meal after church – either catered for a special lunch in the fellowship hall, or perhaps at a nice restaurant in town. Stay tuned for more details on all our fall activities! (For questions or comments, please contact Central Singles leader Jan Bass at 417-224-3325.)

Crosslines Report for May, 2016 On May 10 food was distributed by volunteers from Central and from St. John’s Chapel to 94 families with a total of 221 family members. This is a significant increase over the 64 families who received food in May of 2015. Thanks to all those who donated food and helped to distribute food to those in need. As always, food donations and personal hygiene items are most welcome. Please leave your donations in the grocery cart in the church lobby. Be aware that Crosslines cannot accept open containers, home canned goods, or out-of-date food.

New Ministry for the Bereaved Central Christian is going to start a new ministry for those who are dealing with the loss of a loved one. Many times families are not from the Springfield area and do not know many in our town. We are asking if there are any members who would like to be put on a list that we could call if there is ever a need for Pall Bearers. If you are interested in helping members of our church during this hard time and being there for them by helping with the service, please let the church office know and we will add your name to the list. Central Christian would like to thank all those who have helped us with this ministry in the past week and all those who are willing to be a part of this service in the future.
