This past week I had the wonderful opportunity to spend the week with the youth of our church. Along with Joyce Thomas, I was joined by Curtis Thomas, Erin Frazier, Jordan Simmons, and Andrew Thomas, as we traveled to St. Louis to help out the area by doing mission work. As we traveled we had no idea as to what we would be doing for the week. There were many opportunities that we were told about, but were not told which ones in which we would be participating. WE ended up helping a woman in Webster Groves who was around 90 and was unable to see. We worked on her house, painting her windows, making sure all the windows were properly sealed and caulked, painting the awning over her front porch, and helping her with her backyard, which had overgrown quite a bit. For three days the youth of our church spent on her house, the first day, painting and caulking, the second day some working on painting, others in the backyard, and on the third day all of us working in the backyard (yes, it was that overgrown!). All in all the work was done and she was very grateful for what we had done, as an added bonus we purchased her a new welcome mat for her newly painted home. The week was a success. It was inspiring to see how hard our youth worked and how much they cared to make sure everything looked its very best. In fact, when the rain started to fall heavily on Thursday morning I had to tell them to stop and come in out of the rain.
To let you know that work was not all that was done on the trip, we were also able to drive around St. Louis and take in the city. We stayed at Washington University in St. Louis and saw the surrounding area, we were able to fellowship together over shakes and snow-cones in the afternoon, after the work had been done. We spent an evening at the City Museum where we were able to take in the many different slides it had to offer, as well as some pizza. As a group we went miniature golfing and watched a movie together, and we bonded over the rides at Six Flags. All in all the week was a complete success, getting all our work done and still having time to spend together as a group in fun. Central Christian Church should be very proud of the work the youth did this past week and how they represented our church as one of 19 DOC churches involved in this event.
