SERMON NOTES  Sunday, May 15, 2011 “THE COSTLY ROAD OF DISCIPLESHIP” (Luke 9:57-62, 14:26-27) A follower of Jesus Christ is called a “disciple”. A disciples does not define what following looks like. The Master gives definition to discipleship. What does it mean for us to be disciples of Jesus Christ? “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30, NIV).

1. THE ROAD OF __________________________________ (v. 58).

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple” Luke 14:26-27, NIV). “From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. ‘You do not want to leave too, do you?’ Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.’” (John 6:66-69, NIV).
