Resource Discussion Tab The Cross and Criticism This article has been used by God in profound ways in the history of our church and continues to do so. Discussion of this article is needed, but it is also bound to generate a variety of opinions, some quite strong. That reality seems to suggest its usefulness. Read the whole article as a group and discuss with questions such as: 1. Did anything stand out to you as we read?
 2. On the right side of p17, Poirier states that the ability to take advice and criticism is a distinguishing trait between the wise and the fool. Then, he cites several Scriptures to support. What do you think of that assertion? Don’t just content with Poirier’s comment, but with the Scriptures he cites.
 3. On p18, he underscores that the cross already says about us. How can this truth liberate us from defensiveness? How can such a dark verdict actually be encouraging?
 4. He states we are supposed to receive criticism as though God is sovereign over it and in it. Do you agree? If so, why? If not, why not? What are some examples of the power that is available to us in such a conviction?
 5. In the callout box on p19, he instructs on how to GIVE criticism. Interact with his instruction and share your thoughts. Pray for those who have confessed areas of sin / desired areas for growth. Thank God for the verdict and the justification that is available through the cross of Christ.
