1. THE GREAT FIRE
5. SHOOTING
Beginning in a humble bakery on Pudding Lane in 1656, The Great Fire of London sent the city up in flames and destoryed 13,200 homes.
From pheasants to foxes, the traditional British gent loves to hunt and will always have his dog by his side.
Welcome to The Den at St Martins Lane. A classically British, oak-panelled snug, it’s the perfect place to enjoy afternoon tea, curl up with a book, play a game of backgammon or share a bottle of wine with friends. In the mood for something stronger? Our refreshing G&T menu is inspired by the art on our walls. Eccentric, off-kilter and filled with history and intrigue… just like the city that surrounds us.
6. FREE BIRD 2. OPERA SINGER A nod to our neighbours - English National Opera and The Royal Opera House. The latter gives an average of 150 performances per season.
Brits love their pet birds, and budgies are one of the nation’s favourite. Many are yellow, which happens to be our favourite colour here at St Martins Lane. 7. BALLOONING
3. CRICKETER W.G Grace was the founding father of Cricket, the quintisential British pastime.
Although hot air ballooning wasn’t invented in Britain, no one can dispute that the Brits were pioneers in aviation.
4. OFF WITH HER HEAD!
8. ANCHORS AWEIGH
Anne Boleyn was Henry VIII’s second wife. She was beheaded in the Tower of London on false charges of incest, witchcraft, adultery and conspiracy against the king.
This painting celebrates adventure and exploration. From Captain Cook, Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh, to all the noble Brits to have braved the seven seas. F: STMARTINSLANEHOTEL
