A Shorter History of the World at hand...

Begin at the beginning... It began with a Crawford, a man of property and business, a miller by trade whose 21 acre estate and mill pond or ‘Burn’ set close by his mill supplied the water for flax spinning, corn milling and more.

Crawford House The original building nearly a Century old, imposing, dramatic and now lovingly restored as luxury apartments, each with a unique part of the elegance and grace of the original great landmark and stately home.

In an Age that saw the Plantation of Ulster, the Agricultural Revolution and the redrawing of the World’s boundaries, the name Crawford and these lands became inextricably entwined.

The very heart of the new Sharman The raison d’etre for the most exciting, exclusive and exceptional living ever seen in this country. Crawford House & Sharman House.

AERIAL VIEW

Take the eloquence of the past. Bring the possibilities of the present. Then together they can form the heartland of an extraordinary future… at Sharman.

Crawford House takes the bold, monumental elegance of the original Victorian country house and brings it dramatically back to life with painstaking care. From the resilient pride of the original slated roof, re-laid slate by careful slate to the ornate stone pillars and portals, freshly magnificent again. The clock has turned back to slip off the layers of age from the wide set doorways and elaborate stained glass windows to present them anew.

If you were to imagine it, worked freely and liberally from the deepest wish list in your mind, you couldn’t improve it. You need a new and bigger language for it. More words, better words. But how would you describe it? The same way you describe the sound of one hand clapping.

And then, you move within.

First, there’s the sense of place. 21 acres of woodland and meadow, a wide generous green that strides straight to sand before surrendering to sea. And then at its heart stands Sharman, the triumphant triumvirate.

Preserving and enhancing every possible original detail, Crawford House now opens up into a select number of luxury apartments, each revelling in their share of the vaulted ceilings and stupendously sized staircases. And yet each is as individual and unique as your fingerprint. Turn the key, close the door … you’re home. From the hand-finished bespoke kitchen replete with all the major appliances to the thoughtful choice of colour for carpets and walls, all that remains to be done is to be.

GRAND ARCHITECTURE

Take a moment, take a month, take the time it takes to find and explore and discover your own special places in the playground for the spirit that is North Down.

Shopping, sailing, lazing, lunching, walking, watching, golfing, gambolling… With no fewer than 5 golf clubs, several of this Island’s most notable sailing clubs, premier health and fitness facilities and the very best in retailing, restaurants and relaxation, no two days ever need to be the same.

2 CRAWFORD HOUSE, SHARMAN OLD WINDMILL ROAD

Situated only 12 miles from the buzz that is Belfast, where the stars come out to play in its internationally renowned theatres and glittering ‘Golden Mile’. It’s all within reach, almost in the blink of an eye. By car, by train, by bus … come as you are and go as you please. Begin at Home. Step from Sharman into Crawfordsburn Country Park, sand, shore and sea meet a gregariously wooded parkland with walks, waterfall and wildfowler meadow. Step on a little further past the Inn – is it the oldest in Ireland? – to the white washed cottages and quiet village atmosphere of Crawfordsburn. 2 CRAWFORD HOUSE, OLD WINDMILL ROAD

From here the small seaside town of Holywood is a few minutes away with the bigger town of Bangor a few miles south.

Go do... Go and discover bookshops for the bibliophiles, antiques and curios for the collector, designer labels for the diva and the sharper dresser. Re-discover a passion for sea air or seafood, stretch out your sea-legs or rest and watch the world sail by. It’s all right here... and more... Because there’s more than a fair view on the fairways, there’s more than highlights on the highways and byways, there’s more living and light and laughter than you could gather up into a lifetime. But won’t it be wonderful to try?
