Job Title: Senior Accountant Supervisor’s Title: Controller FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY Founded in 1836, the Episcopal Diocese of Texas serves over 150 churches across 57 counties in Texas. Headquartered in downtown Houston, we are seeking an experienced accountant to serve as Senior Accountant. Reporting to the Controller, this position is part of the Financial Services Corporation which provides accounting, treasury, technology and human resources support to the Diocese and five related foundations. The Senior Accountant is a full-time position with primary duties including general ledger and investment accounting for the Diocese of Texas and related entities’ with over $2 billion dollar in total assets. The successful candidate is someone who is highly motivated to learn and take initiative. This position includes responsibilities such as maintaining general ledgers and preparing financial statements for Diocesan entities. It provides assistance with the annual external audit. Essential Functions and Responsibility 1.

Investment Accounting Account for Diocesan and related entities’ investments Review fund balances and valuations

General Ledger Accounting Maintain financial records for Diocesan Foundations Post recurring and adjusting general ledger entries for monthly and year-end closing Reconcile accounts and post adjusting entries for all entities including inter-fund accounts Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements for the Diocesan entities for Controller’s review Create and maintain financial reports as required Develop and maintain various spreadsheets for amortization of prepaid expenses, depreciation, grants payable, etc. Reconcile miscellaneous asset, liability, and other specific accounts monthly and as needed Reconcile inter-fund accounts for all entities and post adjusting entries as needed Assist with preparation of certain annual audit schedules and confirmations 3. Provide support to finance department Assist Controller in coordinating accounts receivable and HR department’s operations to improve efficiency and accuracy Support certain treasury functions, including ACH payments processing, positive paying checks. Assist with other duties as assigned by Controller

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education Bachelors in Accounting or related field

Qualifications Required Minimum of three years of accounting experience Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) Commitment to Diocesan Mission and Staff Core Values (Professionalism, Joy, Bridge-building, Humility, Integrity, and Creativity) Proficiency in Microsoft Office; advanced knowledge of financial accounting system(s) Ability to respond to questions and communicate information with clarity and work collaboratively with other members of the Diocesan staff. Utilize software to prepare and post journal entries for daily transactions Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion Attention to detail, ability to multi-task and strong organizational skills Qualifications Desired Knowledge and experience in not-for-profit accounting.
