The King is Coming Pt. 1

By Kevin Reynolds, Executive Director

“As for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, seemingly insignificant among the clans of Judah – from you a king will emerge who will rule over Israel”. Micah 5:2 NET ONLY 5 WEEKS!!! 35 DAYS!!!! Christmas at House of Faith is nearly upon us! It seems that Backyard Bible Clubs and the 321 youth program have just begun and it’s already time for Christmas. Such is the way of things during the first Semester of every year. While there are over 50 days until Christmas Day (Dec. 25th), the Christmas parties for us here at HOF begin December 5th. Our theme for Christmas celebrations this year is THE KING IS COMING and, as always, we will be teaching the children about the true meaning of Christmas – JESUS!! This year’s theme allows us to tell the story in a way that brings emphasis to the fact that unless one knows the true nature of the Kingdom of God, the story of Jesus’ humble birth simply does not make sense. Bethlehem. Of all places. No one would have ever thought about Bethlehem as the place for the arrival of the King had not the Prophets of Old foretold such a thing hundreds of years before (see Micah 5:2 above). Professor William F. Albright, the dean of American archaeology in the Holy Land, estimates that the population of Bethlehem at the time of Jesus’ birth to be about 300 people. An obscure village in a corner of ancient Israel, home to relatively few, and the fact that God Almighty chose this place says much about the nature of God and his Kingdom. 300 people in the entire town of Bethlehem. Compare that to even one of our local High Schools, Central HS, with over 2,000 10-12 grade students, or even any one of the 15 Elementary Schools where we hold Backyard Bible Clubs - all of which are greater than 300 students. And to think that the gift given in that little village so long ago has spread all over the world, impacting everyone who has ever lived for all eternity… WOW.
