HSA LECTURE SERIES A big thank you to the HSA board for sponsoring the outstanding speaker group, Reality Based Training (RBTG). As part of the HSA lecture series and their ongoing work towards making our school as safe as it can be, the HSA board invited RBTG to come speak to parents about how to keep themselves and their families safe in today's world. The lecture covered how to stay aware, and make the best decision in situations that are dangerous or stressful. RBTG covered how teachers will keep the students of the school safe in case of emergency, and how parents can help support teachers in this endeavor. The presentation was engaging, informative, and helped prepare our parents for future safety education programs that will be rolled out with students during the year. DAR ESSAY WINNERS Each year the middle school students enter an essay contest put on by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). The topic of this year's essay was women's suffrage and the ratification of the 19th amendment. Congratulations to seventh grade student, Michael Blackstone, and eighth grade student, Joanna Pagedas, who were selected as this year's winners of the essay contest! ANNUAL SPELLING BEE Congratulations to seventh grade student, Meaghan Quirk for winning the 2019 De Chantal school spelling bee. Ms. Quirk also won the spelling bee last year. “In today’s Gospel, before presenting Jesus’ programmatic speech in Nazareth, Luke the Evangelist briefly recounts the work of evangelization. His Word is original because it reveals the meaning of the Scriptures. Jesus is different from the teachers of his time. For example, he doesn’t open a law school but rather goes around preaching and teaching everywhere: in the synagogues, on the streets, in houses, always moving about! Jesus is also different from John the Baptist, who proclaims God’s imminent judgment. Instead Jesus announces God’s fatherly forgiveness. " Pope Francis, Angelus, St. Peter’s Square, 24 January 2016.
