That Man Is You (TMIY) is an interactive, multimedia program focused on men in their relationship to God, to their spouse, and to their children. The ideal candidate is a man who is an actively parenting father. The program utilizes the teachings of the Church and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of man fully alive. It is particularly indebted to the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and Saint John Paul II. Volunteers are needed for recruiting, set up, audio/ visual, and other core functions. For more information, contact Tim Gleeson at 240-338-2899. RUN FOR VOCATIONS Get out your running shoes! Help support our future priests

You are invited to share your

Time ♦ Talent ♦ Treasure Saturday & Sunday, September 20 & 21 after all Masses in Caulfield Hall The fair offers an excellent opportunity to learn about the many ways you can share your time and talent through participation in the many ministries of our parish: Worship and Spiritual Growth, Education, Faith Formation and Evangelization, Family and Vocation, Parish Life, Social Concerns, and Youth. There will also be information available about ways to share your treasure through several giving opportunities. Pizza will be offered during the Fair on Saturday, and coffee and donuts will be offered after the Masses on Sunday morning.

ST. JANE FRANCES DE CHANTAL CHURCH register your child. If you have a child who is older, or if you have a child who is in a Catholic school outside of St. Jane de Chantal who is in 2nd or 8th grade, and would like your child to make the sacraments at St. Jane’s, contact Sally Daniel at the Seton Center at 301-530-1640 or [email protected]. IN OUR LITURGY & MUSIC MINISTRIES

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRY Become a part of the exciting high school youth ministry program at St. Jane! Youth ministry is looking for parent and young adult volunteers to help plan fun activities, serve meals, provide transportation to events, and attend retreats. Each volunteer will be asked to be available for one or two events per semester. Our ministry team is hosting a meeting this Tuesday, August 26 at 7:00 pm in the Seton Center to discuss these volunteer opportunities for the upcoming year. Come inspire, nurture, and grow with our high school students. Catholic and public school students and their parents are invited and encouraged to attend. If you would like to attend, contact Fr. Cusick at [email protected], or Sally Daniel at [email protected].

PIPE ORGAN PLAQUE With the addition of the clarinet rank of pipes, the final completion of our pipe organ will take place within the next few months. To mark the end of this milestone project, we have begun designing a special plaque memorializing the major donors to the pipe organ project. My predecessor established that benefactors giving $1,000 and above to the pipe organ project would have their names (or names of memorial gifts) appear on the plaque. Before the plaque is made, we need to verify and spell check all of the names. A printout of the plaque design is available at the organ console. Please stop by after Mass this weekend or next to approve your name.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Are you an adult Catholic who needs to complete your sacraments of initiation or be confirmed? Come join the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). RCIA is a process of spiritual and religious formation leading a person into a deeper relationship with Christ and an understanding of the Church. Sessions will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 beginning September 17. For more information or to participate in the RCIA, contact Sally Daniel (301-530-1640, [email protected]) or Ken Clansky (301-564-4071).

JOIN THE PARISH CHOIR Music is best manifested when made together as a group. Consider joining our Parish Choir. Choir is Christian formation at its most profound and enduring. Though church choirs may appear to be about music, what we do is Christian formation. We share the faith and tradition with one another and spread the Gospel with one of the most effective tools ever devised – music. Choir offers a lifechanging relationship with God and one another. We build community, as we come together regularly to pursue a common goal. We do it for God. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 8:00-10:00 in the Choir Room and we sing for the 10:00 am Mass on Sundays from September to June.

BIBLE STUDY IN REVELATION In this intriguing look at one of the most talked-about books in Scripture, Jeff Cavins will explore Revelation to demonstrate how the Kingdom established by Christ in His Church is intimately connected with the Kingdom of Heaven, especially through the celebration of the Mass. You will also learn what all the mysterious figures and images of Revelation represent, as well as what will happen during the Second Coming of Christ, what has already happened, and what is happening now in Salvation History. Two sections will be offered for this ten-week course: the first section will begin Sunday, September 21 at 6:15 pm, and the second section will begin Thursday, September 25 at 9:00 am. Cost for the study materials is $25.00. Register by September 12 so study materials can be ordered ahead of time. To register for the course, contact Sally Daniel at

JOIN THE HANDBELL ENSEMBLE Have you heard us? We’re pretty good. We need more ringers, however, to be able to adequately ring our beautiful three octaves of handbells. Are you a timid singer, yet enjoy making music, or do you want to learn more about making music? Then, this is the group for you. We rehearse for one hour during the week and provide music at a weekend Mass once per month. Listening to music is good for the brain; however, playing music gives your brain the equivalent of a full body workout! JOIN THE CHANTAL FAMILY CHOIR Last year was a year of transition for this music group. In order for us to continue, we need additional members, and to achieve that, we are going to change our paradigm a

AUGUST 24, 2014 bit. The Chantal Family Choir is an informal opportunity (we encourage all ages and ability) for the entire family to sing together at a weekend Mass. This group is most convenient for parishioners who cannot commit to a weekday rehearsal or who need beginning singing experience before joining the Parish Choir. Rehearsals are on Sundays at 11:10 am and the choir ministers at the 12:00 noon Mass. Our music is simple, yet it beautifully adorns the liturgy. HYMNALS As I mentioned last week, we are in the beginning stages of acquiring a new hymnal for the parish. There are many hymnal/songbook options available; however, a hardbound hymnal offers the best financial value since a one time purchasing fee is far less than an annual subscription for disposable hymn books over a ten year span. Additionally, hardbound hymnals leave less of a carbon footprint on our environment, are durable, and will look honorable in the pews. The Worship hymnal that we will be purchasing is currently in use at many parishes across the archdiocese, including our Cathedral Church of St. Matthew, the Apostle. These books are printed with a larger font than found in Ritual Song and contain all of the new translations of the Mass inside of the front cover, thus we will no longer need additional hymnal supplements in the pews. The new hymnal will be the same shape, size, and weight as our current Ritual Song hymnal. We will soon begin a campaign to raise funds for the new books by selling memorial nameplates that will be pasted on the inside of the front cover. NOTES ON T ODAY’S MUSIC This weekend’s Recessional Hymn is perhaps known as the “unofficial” national anthem for the Roman Church. The lyrics of Holy God, We Praise Thy Name were written by Ignaz Franz (1717-1790), a Catholic priest living in what is now Poland. The text, based on Isaiah 6:3 and Revelation 4:8 is a paraphrase of the Te Deum; a hymn text that is used during the Liturgy of the hours, as well as at the consecration of bishops, and on other festive occasions. The text of the Te Deum is too long to print out here, but I encourage you to find it in your prayer books or online. It makes a great prayer during private devotion. The original hymn text contains eight stanzas; these have been cut down to three in our current hymnal. We will sing all three stanzas, because we should never miss the chance to sing a doxology to the Father, Son and Holy Ghost!

STEWARDSHIP In today’s reading, St. Paul reminds the Romans — and us — that all things come from God: “For from Him and through Him and for Him all things are.” Good stewards understand that all is gift and share generously the gifts of time, talent, and treasure with which they’ve been blessed.
