Psalm Response: Ps 16 A song of trust in God alone. Psalm 16 was one of the first psalms the early Christian community interpreted as referring to Christ, seeing a clear resurrection theme.

Memorial Acclamation ................. When we eat this bread from A Community Mass | #356 ......................................................... When we eat this bread from Mass of Creation | #366

Gospel: Mk 13:24-32 Many people in Jesus’ time expected an imminent ending of time, or at least a dramatic ending of the “age” in which they were living. Jesus accepts that expectation, but he calls on his disciples to remain faithful to his teaching, which “shall not pass away” (Isaiah 50:5-9a). One of the “songs of the servant,” this poem describes the faithful Israelite (or perhaps the prophet) as one who has suffered for fidelity to God. Despite such suffering, the servant holds true to faith, knowing that the “Lord God is my help.” Communion Antiphon: Ps 73:28 To be near God is my happiness, to place my hope in God the Lord.

Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just; praise befits the upright. Give praise to the Lord on the harp; sing to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings. Sing to him a new canticle, sing well unto him with a loud noise.

.................................................. (Sun. 5 pm) Though the Mountains May Fall | Dan Schutte Concluding Hymn ..................................... THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YOUNG ADULT FELLOWSHIP: CREDIBLE CATHOLIC SERIES Come join us for our Fall spiritual series! We will be studying and discussing the “Credible Catholic” series. Through engaging presentations, the series looks to debunk several secular "myths" which drive many away from the Catholic Church. The fourth session, "Proof of Jesus' Resurrection and Divinity," will be held in Caulfield Hall at 7:30 pm on Monday, November 26.

IN OUR PARISH Can’t find the bulletin you brought home from church? Want to keep up on what’s happening in the parish even when you are away on vacation or sick in bed? Visit our parish website, www.stjanedechantal.org to view a copy of the bulletin and for more information on parish events and organizations. WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS St. Jane de Chantal Parish welcomes those who have recently registered in our parish. If you attend Mass at St. Jane Frances de Chantal regularly, we encourage you to register as a member. Please complete a registration form and drop it in the collection basket when you attend Mass. SACRED MUSIC IN A SACRED SPACE Join us this Sunday, November 18 at 3:00 pm for a free concert featuring music for trombone and organ performed by Jeremy Buckler, trombonist with the National Symphony Orchestra, and Russell Weismann. The concert is free and all are welcome, especially our youngest parishioners who might be learning how to play a brass instrument! M ASS OF THANKSGIVING This Thursday, November 22, is Thanksgiving. The only Mass at St. Jane de Chantal will be celebrated at 11:00 am. The Poor Box on Thanksgiving will benefit St. Martin’s Cloak. ADVENT GIVING TREE The Advent Giving Tree program, sponsored by the St. Jane de Chantal Sodality, will begin Thanksgiving weekend, November 24/25. Ornament gift tags will be hung on trees in the gathering space of church. Each tag indicates a gift request from one of the charitable organizations we support; there will be a chart on the digital board listing the charities, the people they serve, and which color/shape tag goes with each charity. Take a tag from one of the trees and return the gift in a gift bag, with the tag attached. Gifts will be collected only during the Saturday vigil and Sunday Masses the weekends of December 1/2 and December 8/9. Gifts should not be left in the church during the week. If you must leave a gift early, please deliver it to the parish office. Giving Tree questions: Denise Sintetos ([email protected] | 301-807-6199) and Colleen Hadigan ([email protected] | 301-564-0368).

ADVENT WREATH WORKSHOP Begin Advent by bringing your family and friends together to learn about the Advent wreath and to make a fresh wreath of your own to take home! Register for one of the two workshops to be offered on Sunday, December 2 in Caulfield Hall: at 1:00 pm or 2:30 pm. For $25, you will receive instructions and all of the materials you need to create your own Advent wreath. This is a fun and festive event. All are welcome! Register on-line at https:// membership.faithdirect.net/events/details/2386 by November 28. For more information, contact the Seton Center ([email protected]), or Maureen Bailey ([email protected]). IN OUR BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL Check out the St. Jane de Chantal School website at www.dechantal.org to get information on admissions, see what each classroom is studying, and more. OPEN HOUSE On November 10, St. Jane de Chantal School welcomed dozens of families to the Fall Open House. Each family was greeted by Mrs. Hamilton and then led on a school tour by a current parent. Many families have since submitted applications for the 2019-20 school year. The next school Open House will be held Monday, January 28, 2019. Plan to join us, and visit our classrooms and meet the teachers. KINDERGARTEN TO BROOKEVILLE ACADEMY This week the Kindergarten traveled back in time to the days of the Pilgrims and Wampanoag people at Brookville Academy in historic Brookeville, MD. Students learned about chores from these early pioneers, such as butter churning, milking the cows, pounding cornmeal into flour, washing clothing, and carding the wool. Students learned Native American stories and played a Native American rock game. Everyone agreed they would rather live today, than long ago! FIFTH GRADE TO MOUNT VERNON The fifth grade went on its annual trip to Mt. Vernon last week to learn more about George Washington and colonial America. This trip coincides with their study of the founding of the American republic, fight for independence, and founding fathers. GIRLS VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY STATE CHAMPS Congratulations to the Varsity girls cross country team for placing first at the MD/DC Private Middle School Championship race in Crownsville, MD last week. The race was a difficult two mile course with water features and a hill labeled "Death Hill." Meredith Gotzman led the team with a first place finish in a time of 13:51 followed closely by her twin, Caroline Gotzman, and Grace Finnegan, Liza Goetcheus, Kate and Claire Campbell, Joeli Serra, Jennifer Maxwell, Lillian Aquino, Claire Gotzman, Morgan Skibo, Katie McCabe, Alessia Jones, Meaghan Quirk, Isabella Aguilar Jimenez, Sydney Trent, and Sara Ryan. The website also has a media center, which includes social media tools, a YouTube channel, and apps. SEASON FOR HEALING One of the ways that the Archdiocese of Washington is continuing to accompany survivors is to offer a “One-Day Retreat for Survivors.” This “One-Day Retreat for Survivors“ is an opportunity for survivors to reflect on God’s plan for their lives, healing, and prayer. This day is not therapeutic in nature nor an opportunity for professional counseling, rather it is a day centered on Christ and prayer. The retreat will take place December 1, from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm at a local retreat center. To protect the privacy of those attending the day, the location will not be publicized. There is a brief registration questionnaire; once you complete the questionnaire, ADW staff will personally contact you to discuss further details of the day. The registration PDF and instructions can be found at https://adw.org/outreach-tosurvivors. Questions, contact Deborah McDonald at [email protected] or 301-853-4466. TOLTON: FROM SLAVE TO PRIEST Now through Sunday, November 18, the Archdiocese of Washington and the Diocese of Arlington are collaborating to bring the Saint Luke Productions play, Tolton: From Slave to Priest, to Bishop Ireton High School (201 Cambridge Road, Alexandria, VA 22314) for five performances during Black Catholic History Month. The play tells the story of Servant of God Father Augustus Tolton, who journeyed from slavery to become the first African-American Catholic priest. There is no charge for this event, but free-will offerings will be accepted. You may

Since 1952, the Archdiocese of Washington has produced a weekly televised Mass for those who are homebound, broadcast from the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It is a wonderful ministry for those members of our Catholic family who are unable to be physically present with a local worshiping community for the Sunday Eucharistic Liturgy. The Mass airs every Sunday at 10:30 am on WDCW-50; no cable, Dish or DIRECTV subscribers: Ch. 50; Comcast: Ch. 23 in Washington, DC and Montgomery County, Ch. 3 in Prince George's County and Southern Maryland; RCN: Ch 15; Verizon: Ch. 3. WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE ON TV? Join the congregation at a taping of the TV Mass! Your presence at the TV Mass is a wonderful way to bring the Mass to those who are homebound. STEWARDSHIP The readings today speak of the end of the world and the coming of the kingdom. The bishops’ pastoral on stewardship says clearly that “that ‘life to come’ is in continuity with this present life through the human goods, the worthy human purposes, which people foster now.” May our good stewardship help us to be numbered among the chosen on the last day!
