MUSIC MINISTRY NEWS On Sunday, March 19, members of the Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble offered a concert in our Sacred Music in a Sacred Space community outreach series, featuring early instruments from the Renaissance era. The cornetts and sackbutts are the ancestors to the modern day trumpet and trombone, respectively. Following the concert of music reflective of the music of 16th century Venetian composers working in Saint Mark’s Basilica in Venice, the audience enjoyed asking the players some questions about their instruments. A reception sponsored by the Sodality was held afterwards. Events in our Sacred Music in a Sacred Space series are generously supported by our Friends of Music at St. Jane’s.

STEWARDSHIP When Jesus heard about the illness of His friend, Lazarus, He responded, “This illness is not to end in death; rather it is for God’s glory, that through it the Son of God may be glorified.” Every aspect of our lives — our gifts as well as our sufferings — can, if surrendered to Christ, lead to blessing for others and ourselves. POPE FRANCIS “Christ is not resigned to the sepulchres that we have constructed with our choices of evil and death, with our mistakes, our sins. [Jesus] invites us, almost orders us, to come out of the tombs into which our sins have plunged us. [For] there is no limit to the divine mercy, which is offered to everyone [R] The Lord is always ready to roll away the tombstone of our sins, which separate us from Him, the light of the living.” Pope Francis, Angelus, St. Peter’s Square, 6 April 2014.
