Breaking Point // The Problem Stress is an ever-growing problem in our world and personal lives (John 16:33). As believers, this stress is often exasperated because we lack wisdom in how to live the abundant life Jesus intends for us (John 10:10). Thankfully, God wants us to be sharp and graciously gives wisdom to those who ask for it (James 1:5; Ecclesiastes 10:10). He wants to move us away from our breaking point. SHARING TESTIMONIES Share with your group a specific example of how you have encountered the peace and presence of God recently in the midst of a stressful situation. What was the situation, and how did God make Himself real and known in it? GO DEEPER In John 16:33, Jesus makes it clear that we will experience trouble in this world. According to this verse, how are we as believers to respond to this trouble? What has Jesus given us or accomplished for us? According to Ecclesiastes 10:10, what is necessary if a dull blade or ax is used? In contrast, what is needed to help one succeed? In James 1:5, how do believers gain wisdom? What is the difference between being smart and being wise? MAKE IT PERSONAL Are you at a breaking point because of the stress and pressure you are under? What has led you to that breaking point? In what areas of your life do you need the wisdom of God to make you sharper (e.g. finances, time management, physical exercise, work and leisure, relationships, etc.) ? PRACTICE IT NOW God longs to give us wisdom, and He eagerly gives it to those who ask. Take 5-7 minutes as a Life Group, in an attitude of prayer, to ask God for wisdom, especially in the areas mentioned by those in your group. Ask Him to make you sharper and to keep you from any stressful breaking points. Take time also to pray over those who feel as though they are at a breaking point right now. Ask God to invade their specific situations with His divine power and peace.
