The Vineyard Prayer Model 1. Interview: A brief time to answer, “what is the ultimate cause of this situation?” • What is the problem? • Where does it hurt? • When did it start? • Have you received previous prayer or counsel about this? 2. Diagnosis: What do you see as the root cause of the problem? • What should you address in prayer? (if more than one possibility, pray in an exploratory way) • What words of knowledge, visions or discernment are you receiving? • Listen (see Addendum 2 for expanded discussion) “dial down” 3. Prayer Selection: decide how to pray (look at Jesus’ model) • Rebuke • Resist • Command • Intercede in tongues • Speak to pain, fear etc. • Release • Bless • Break 4. Ministry: Keep your eyes open! Look, listen & ask questions • Look for signs of the Spirit (eyes fluttering, listing or swooning, tears & facial expression, glow or sheen, breathing change) • Pray only as God is directing you to • Be willing to take risks • Have the person repent, forgive or pray as needed • Don’t just babble and hope you hit it! • Give God time to speak • Do not try to manipulate the hand of God, follow it • Pray with focused prayer (follow the leader) • Loudness does not make for greater power • Encourage relaxed expectation • Make every effort to protect the privacy of the one you are praying for. 5. Post Prayer Direction: help the person “digest” what occurred • Go and sin no more • Pray and read your bible • Get into a small group • Get counseling
