Week 1

V. REVELATION—ITS MAIN PERSON A. Jesus Christ 1. Faithful witness (1:5—a reliable source of information) 2. First begotten of the dead (1:5—never to die again) 3. Prince of the kings of the earth (1:5, 19:16—the Ruler and King of Kings and Lord of Lords) 4. Alpha and Omega (1:8—the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet; expresses His eternality and omnipotence; He is before all things and will be after all things) 5. The Almighty (1:8—look at the word ”all-mighty”—nothing can stop Him from carrying out His will) B. What He has bought for the saint (1:5) 1. He has loved us and washed us from our sins (1:5) 2. If this truth originated with us it would be reversed: i. We would want to clean up the person first ii. Jesus accepted us as dirty sinners and then cleansed us C. What He has wrought for the saint (1:.6, 7) 1. Made us a kingdom of priests (1:6) 2. Given us a bright prospect for the future (1:7) i. His coming is twofold a. He comes for His Church (4:1—as a thief only to the church) b. He comes with His Church (1:7; Rev. 19—visible to all the world— ”every eye shall see him. V.7) ii. He evens the score (1:7; From Chapter 4 forward, the wrath of the Lamb is revealed; 6:16)

VI. REVELATION—GOD IS SPEAKING TO THE WORLD A. Through His Son, Jesus Christ B. The world will do one of two things with Jesus 1. Hear Him now and accept Him as Saviour (1:2-3,5) 2. Hear Him later for the last time when sentence is executed (20:15)
