Gathering Hymn

Children of the Heavenly Father - Emma Lou Diemer

Dr. Steven Gray

“Take My Life, That I May Be” – ELW 583 (vs 1,3 & 4) Refrain: Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee. Take my moments and my days; let them flow in endless praise Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of thy love. Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee. (Refrain) Take my voice and let me sing always, only, for my King. Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from thee. (Refrain) Take my will and make it thine; it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne. (Refrain)

Greeting P O Lord, our Sovereign God, you are neither made nor fashioned by anyone. C Wonderful beyond measure, you are faithful Father, servant Son, and enlivening Spirit. P Holy Lord, beautiful and dynamic, Intimately united as a society of love. C You are our Creator and cause, You are our perfect Savior, You are our Intercessor and giver of spiritual gifts. P The Lord of all has called us forth; Our Triune God has made us good. C Hallelujah, bless the Lord. Hallelujah, praise God’s holy name!

Welcome and Announcements The Greeting P The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C And also with you. Confession and Forgiveness (All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism as the presiding minister begins) P Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God, whose steadfast love is everlasting, whose faithfulness endures from generation to generation.

Silence for reflection and self-examination. P Reconciling God, C We confess that we do not trust your abundance, and we deny your presence in our lives. We place our hope in ourselves and rely on our own efforts. We fail to believe that you provide enough for all. We abuse your good creation for our own benefit. We fear difference and do not welcome others as you have welcomed us. We sin in thought, word, and deed. By your grace, forgive us; through your love, renew us; and in your Spirit, lead us; so that we may live and serve you in newness of life. Amen. P Beloved of God, by the radical abundance of divine mercy we have peace with God through + Christ Jesus, through whom we have obtained grace upon grace. Our sins are forgiven. Let us live now in hope. For hope does not disappoint, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. C Amen.

Hymn of Praise

Children of the Heavenly Father - ELW 781 (vs 1,2 &4) Children of the heav’nly Father safely in His bosom gather; nestling bird nor star in heaven such a refuge e’er was given. God, His own doth tend and nourish, in his holy courts they flourish. From all evil things he spares them, in his mighty arms he bears them. Though he giveth or he taketh, God His children ne’er forsaketh; his the loving purpose solely to preserve them, pure and holy.

Prayer of The Day P The Lord be with you C And also with you. P Let us pray. Lesson: Romans 6: 1-11 (NTp.148) Psalm 69:7-10, 16-18 Gospel Acclamation

Change my Heart O God” - ELW 801 Change my heart oh God; make it ever true Change my heart oh God; may I be like you. You are the potter; I am the clay. Mold me and make me; this is what I pray. Change my heart oh God; make it ever true Change my heart oh God; may I be like you.

Gospel

Matthew 10: 24- 39 (NTp.10)

Sermon - Rev. Dr. Jonathan Doolittle Hymn of The Day

Borning Cry - ELW 732 I was there to hear your borning cry, I'll be there when you are old. I rejoiced the day you were baptized, to see your life unfold. I was there when you were but a child, with a faith to suit you well; in a blaze of light you wandered off to find where demons dwell.

When you heard the wonder of the Word I was there to cheer you on; you were raised to praise the living Lord, to whom you now belong. If you find someone to share your time and you join your hearts as one, I'll be there to make your verses rhyme from dusk 'till rising sun. In the middle ages of your life, not too old, no longer young, I'll be there to guide you through the night, complete what I've begun. When the evening gently closes in, and you shut your weary eyes, I'll be there as I have always been with just one more surprise. I was there to hear your borning cry, I'll be there when you are old. I rejoiced the day you were baptized, to see your life unfold. Apostles' Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers P Gathered into the mystery of the Trinity, let us pray for the church, the world, and all of God’s creation. After each portion of the prayers P Hear us, O God. C Your mercy is great. The prayers conclude: P …. Receive these prayers, O God, and those too deep for words; through Christ our Lord.

C Amen.

Prayer Response: O Lord, Hear My Prayer - ELW 751 O Lord, hear my prayer, O Lord, hear my prayer, When I call, answer me. O Lord, hear my prayer, O Lord, hear my prayer, come and listen to me. (Repeat) The Peace Pastor: While we cannot share God’s peace with each other we still live today and always with the assurance that the peace of the Lord is with us always. Song

If I Can Help Somebody – Alma Androzzo

Table Prayer P The Lord be with you! C And also with you! P Lift up your hearts! C We lift them up to the Lord! P Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God! C It is right to give Him thanks and praise!

Angela Jackson

The Lord's Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

Sending: A Prayer for the power of the Spirit among the people of God. God of all power and love, we give thanks for your unfailing presence and the hope you provide in times of uncertainty and loss. Send your Holy Spirit to enkindle in us your holy fire. Revive us to live as Christ’s body in the world: a people who pray, worship, learn, break bread, share life, heal neighbors, bear good news, seek justice, rest and grow in the Spirit. Wherever and however we gather, unite us in common prayer and send us in common mission, that we and the whole creation might be restored and renewed, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Blessing P Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor power, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. God the creator, + Jesus, the Christ, and the Holy Spirit, the comforter, bless you and keep you in eternal love. C Amen. Dismissal P Remain in God’s great peace. Christ is with you. C Thanks be to God. Sending Hymn

Have No Fear, Little Flock – ELW 764 Have no fear, little flock; have no fear, little flock, for the Father has chosen to give you the kingdom; have no fear, little flock! Have good cheer, little flock; have good cheer, little flock, for the Father will keep you in his love forever; have good cheer, little flock! Praise the Lord high above; praise the Lord high above, for he stoops down to heal you, uplift and restore you; praise the Lord high above! Thankful hearts raise to God; thankful hearts raise to God, for he stays close beside you, in all things works with you; thankful hearts raise to God!
