October Tanzania Trip

Informational Meeting: March 26 at 11:00 am in the Group Room Trip dates: October 10–25 Approximate cost: $3,300 Contact Nicole: [email protected]

This is most certainly true. In my middle school years I went to Confirmation Class every Wednesday. Our pastor helped us grow in faith through teaching the Bible, prayer, and Luther’s Small Catechism. In their youth, the older members of my church had to memorize the Catechism and be quizzed on it. That style of learning had fallen out of fashion in my day, but I did remember Martin Luther’s conclusion to the three articles of the Apostles’ Creed: “This is most certainly true.”

What difference can I make in the little time I have?

During college I had the opportunity to spend a semester studying in Dublin, Ireland. This was my first time traveling abroad, and before I left for the airport my dad gave me two things: a pocket-sized Bible, and a prayer book based on the Small Catechism. Here were the tools I needed to revisit what I learned in Confirmation Class, and apply it to my life as a young adult in a strange environment.

The next packing date: Monday, March 20, 6:00–8:00 pm. Sign up at Southwood Central or southwoodlutheran.ivolunteer.com

The dorm I lived in on campus was a former convent. Every Sunday morning bells pealed endlessly and harmoniously from churches in the neighborhood and across the city. Some weeks I made it to church…and I confess some weeks I didn’t. Yet from the perch of my small room, sitting in bed and looking south to the Wicklow Mountains, I had the basic tools given to me by my pastor, parents, fellow Christians— and by the Holy Spirit. In the life of faith, we can always learn from the basics. “This is most certainly true!”

Southwood volunteers packed meals at Chapter 25 on Saturday, February 18. In two hours, they were able to pack enough to feed 5,754 children. That’s a big difference.

Caring 3 Tips for Everyday

Prayer Tips for Lent

Talk with God: Prayer is simply having a conversation with God. Some people have ideas of what they should or should not include in prayer. Perhaps God is more concerned that we just come to talk. Parents are always grateful to hear from their children, no matter what the conversation! Try these simple ideas as you talk with God: ff Keep it simple—Don’t make prayers complicated. Talk with God as you are talking with a close friend. ff Make a prayer list—When you become aware of specific prayer requests, write them down so you can follow through when you tell someone you will ‘keep them in your prayers’. ff Use a prayer journal—Write down your prayers and thoughts as you pray. Reread them and see how God is active in your life in more ways than you realize! Source: http://bit.ly/2n28DuT visited March 7, 2017
